Out of Activations for READER

I have a problem with reader in that I cannot activate it on my X50v. Between the ROM update, then a replacement unit, then a forced hard reset ... the activation site is now telling me I have used up my allotment of activations.

There is a form you can submit to request an additional activation ... so I did that. However, it immediately returned a DENIED message.

There was another form you could fill out to have an actual person respond to you. So I did that. At the end it says an MS person will contact you in 2 business days. It has been a week and I have heard nothing.

Is there any END USER way to manage your activations? Can I go in and clear out the old ones so I can get back up and running on Reader? :rolling:

Ebooks will never take off with crap like this. I have dozens of purchased books that I have read over the years that are now completely inaccessible.

MSReader Issue

Sorry, I had the same issue and finally gave up on Microsoft doing anything about it. They didn't seem to care that there are always extended circumstances and we might need things just reset.

The work around is to simply created another Hotmail Address (I already had one that was hotmail.com so I created one that is Hotmail.net).

I'm on my second time around with this very same problem. I never did get a response from M$ the first time around (not that I expected one). I just tried activating one day and it worked. I don't know what is going to happen this time around. I still don't expect a response from M$ so I guess I will play the waiting game.

I solved this problem..

I had the exact same issues w/ MS Reader. I solved this by converting my ebook collection to ereader format. Works on Palm, PPC, XP and OS X. Exactly what I want. A reader that goes where I go.

So what did you have to do to change from .lit format to ereader format?

I am about to have the same problem. I am going to install the Rom update and also have to reinstall XP. I have had 3 comps a couple of pda's and a few reinstalls. Must be getting close to my limit. Where is the activation info stored? Perhaps it can be backed up and reinstalled? Also doesn't the email in the activation have to match the purchased book email or else they won't work. This makes getting a new activation not a possibilty. I am going to upgrade on the weekend so hoping to get this solved before then. I bought my ebooks from amazon and you can redownload them so hopefully it can be assigned to a different email as I have both Acrobat and Reader books that I have not finished reading.

There is a .dll called secrep.dll. You may be able to make a copy of that onto your desktop, and instead of reactivating, just copy the .dll file back to your PPC. Not sure it will work, though.

I had the same MS Reader error a couple of years ago, right after I had purchased about $70 worth of books on sale. I finally got it reactivated after about a week. I read those books and have not purchased MSReader books since then. I read palm, formerly Peanut Press, then Palm Digital Media, now eReader. Their DRM is linked to my credit card. If I change my card, I can change all of the books, even the ones on my bookshelf. I have the Pro version of the Reader which is excellent.

I was able to reactivate M$ Reader last night. Still no correspondence from M$ about this issue, but at least I can read my books again.
