eReader finally with native VGA support!
eReader 2.61 is out and finally offers native VGA support! Other than that, there is better landscape support, various bug fixes etc. Check for more at Mobileread:

Yes I was tired of using Tweak's VGA hack. It didn't always work so great, especially with the previous last version of eReader that came out for Tosiba devices.

I have been wondering this myself. I have never tried the ebook stuff before. Are there standard ebook formats? If I go with ereader can I get books form other sites? ie Amazon shows them as being MS or Adobe type, or do I need thoes readers as well? Thanks in advance~

My favourite site for free (and legal) ebooks is www.memoware.com
A list of formats and readers can be found here http://www.memoware.com/mw.cgi/?screen=help_format
MSreader and PDF both support DRM and so Amazon is able to sell copyrighted material to you. These books are then locked to you (or some machines) owned by you.

So you can't get just one reader then and expect it to be albe to show different types of files. So the options seem to be go with one that also has a large selection of ebooks as well. Is that correct?

It also depends on your tolerance for DRM. I HATE the way it's implemented in Microsoft Reader and Adobe Reader - you have to activate your PDA to read any DRMed material. eReader's DRM is very simple and unobtrusive - you just enter the number of the credit card that you used to purchase a book, and it unlocks all books on your device that were purchased with that card.

eReader can only read the old Palmdoc format and its own eReader (usually DRM-crippled) format. I am using eReader when I buy a commercial e-book; of all the available commercial solutions I find eReader the least obstrusive (I hate Mobipocket for that matter). If I convert my own reading material, for instance html text, I am using iSilo as a reader.

well Lots of readers read pdb format which is one of the most popular. I use ubook book (which reads quite a few other non drm formats too)
A lot of the readers are free.. so you can have as many as you like.
I can see the point of DRM for ebooks.. After all I agree that authors should get paid for their work.. But i really dislike the way its implemented. So all of my ebooks are free ones (classics.. out of copywrite etc...) and for modern reading I either buy paperbacks (pbooks?) or visit the library (it works kinda like napster to go for p books :) )...
A Napster to go approach to ebooks would be a fantastic idea

I have been playing around with it. Looks like a nice program. I did move it to my CF card and it still seems to work. One question however, do the books have to be in main memory. Seems to be the only way I get it to work. Thanks again~

I'm trying out the unregistered version now. When I put my X50v in landscape mode, the text remains in portrait. Is this different in the Pro version?

I have the free version as well and it switches to Landscape mode just fine. Strange. Sorry I can't be more help. I have only had the program for 3 hours.

Another question here, I have been searching for an answer. But, when reading the book there is a small rectangle in the lower right corner with the page number above it. This rectangle seems to blink or refresh a lot. Is this normal? I moved it to my CF card if that makes a difference. Thanks~
Adam
It is the box below the number 6 that flickers.

FlyACL - you can store your books on a card, just create a folder called "Peanut Press" in the My Documents folder and put your books in there.
The little rectangle at the bottom of the screen is a progress bar. When you first open a book, it will flash as the book "paginates," and you should see a black line border being drawn. When the border is complete and the book is fully paginated, it should stop flashing. Then it will start showing how far into the book you are by drawing a solid-colored bar that gets longer as your progress. (You can see this if you click on the rectangle or page number and jump further into the book with the slider.)
