eBook with ETD extension? How do I read this book??

I am new to this reading eBook arena, so please pardon my newbie question.

I just downloaded my first eBook from the city library and the library said that the downloaded file would be an 'Adobe eBook'. It downloaded a file by the name of 'ebx.etd'. Now what do I do with this file. I tried opening this file in Adobe Reader, uBook and MobiPocket. No sucess. Any suggestions please?

When I did a search, I found that this extension is indeed one for Acrobat. Have you tried it on your desktop to see if it works? Do you have the latest version of Acrobat for PPC? It's also possible that this particular format (apparently has extra features) may not work with the PPC version.

If this is really important for you to read on PPC, you can always try converting it using Repligo.

Thanks Gigi. When I did a google yesterday, it told me that ETD stood for "Electronic Theses and Dissertations" and it is used in libraries. So I thought it might be the equivalent of DRM in eBooks.

No, I haven't tried this yet. Will give this a try later and post back the result.

Yes, I downloaded Acrobat yesterday from their website.

That was going to be my next step. I had downloaded Repligo yesterday on my laptop, but never got around to installing it on my X50v. Hopefully I will be able to do it sometime today.

Before you can read an etd file, you need to activate your copy of Adobe to enable it to read ebooks. I did this once. It was a convoluted process and Adobe's support is very poor. Go to Adobe's website and look for the activation link. Good luck!

MMMM...boiled son
