Today's book looks good. Mystery/suspense category, Kiss of Deceit, Patricia A. Rasey. I haven't read any by this author. I hope I like the book, I'll buy the rest.
As far as the credit card, I like it better than the other types of DRM. I don't blame authors for not wanting to make everything "free". I don't mind paying for books, paperback price not hardback, it's worth it for the convenience.
Ditto. It's a "free" ebook, but it's locked to your credit card number? If they want to give away free ebooks, they should remove the DRM and make it really free.
Yeh I was originally thinking the same thing, but I think the difference is that they are giving *you* a free copy, not making the book itself *free* (public domain) . My guess is , apart from copyright limitations (and therefore locking it to your CC), that this way they only give away a limited/finite number of books, and somewhat ensures that there won't be unlimited "free" (unlocked) copies posted by a recipient somewhere for all eternity ? The authors are still entitled to- and I guess hope to- sell their books to someone else after the 24 hours freebie! :)
Great promotion though- and it's working for them I guess as I've already bought extra books..... :approve:
I downloaded the free one today and it never asked for my CC number or anything.

Well that might blow my theory out of the water !
unless....
Were you already signed in from a previous visit ? I tried signing out then attempt a download, and in my case it wouldn't let me download without logging back in.
Nope, not signed in or anything. I typed www.ereader.com clicked the link for the promo and downloaded the book. I then installed it and opened it, read the first couple of pages. No problems!
Then I went and drank my 20 "Saturday" beers. :)

Well, its over, but I think I scored at least a dozen free ebooks. They did have some good titles! Thanks again for the heads-up! :approve:

Our agreements with publishers allow us to offer certain books without charge, but require us to lock the book to your credit card number. Your credit card will not be charged for the free book
Screw that.
That's right, to hell with them. Its not enough that they give me something for free, they better give it to me unDRMed as well.
