I agree..my only problem with MSReader is the wasted screen space

So, if any of you had problems with ABC Amber LIT Converter opening some LIT files, it looks like that's been fixed. I'm not sure if the public link for the download has been updated to v1.07 yet, but I'm sure that will happen soon. Thanks again to forkyfork for just being so forky. ;)

I have tried the author website but unable to find the file. Is it possible to send me the file? I need v1.07 so that I can read the book using uBook. I find the background of uBook is easier on the eyes.

It's actually kind of fun (in a sick and sad anal-retentive sort of way).
Most of my books are 'unauthorized' so I am constantly finding typos and other errors that drive me absolutely insane until I fix them.

Lit converter

I think the best LIT converter is (CLIT) AKA ConvertLit (http://www.convertlit.com/)

ConvertLit by itself is DOS based without GUI. But there is a GUI available athttp://www.hot.ee/dukelupus/ConvertLIT.htm).

I liked it better than ABC converter. It also does bulk convertions and downconversions.

The problem with CLIT is that it explodes all the html files and depending on the book you may 15 different htmls, probably in the wrong order.

Just thought I'd bump this up for new Axim users that weren't aware of this program.

http://www.processtext.com/abclit.html

It's FREEWARE and the download link is near the bottom of the page.

The CLit tool will export all the files the way they were authored. Depending on your need, this may or may not be a problem.

On the other hand when it comes to authoring LIT files, I create my LIT files manually, starting from content in html/oeb format to the OPF packaging files. The converter is available from the Content SDK, but only source code is provided so you'd need to have a compiler to get a working converter. It looks like a lot of work to get something simple to work, but trust me, no other free tool expose the capability of Reader like the SDK.

I'm obviously doing something wrong! I downloaded/installed this program, and I've run it with several of my .lit books, converting to both pdf and html. Works fine! Except...everything is run together from beginning to end - no paragraphs, blank lines before chapters, etc. Doesn't seem to matter what format I export to. Any ideas what I'm missing? Thanks!

I only ask because I'm doing the opposite of all of you and I convert all of my TXT, DOC, HTM, and PDB files into LIT files.

MSReader is free...
It runs just fine from BIS...
If it's pre-installed in ROM then it takes no storage space at all...
The LIT files are typically smaller so there's an other space savings...

Besides lacking an auto-scroll function, what is the big complaint that makes it worth paying for and installing an alternative?

No offense intended... I'm really wondering.
Among all the other responces regarding the various problmes with MSReader, some of the most important differences between reader & other alternatives, is the ability to format your book how you want it. For example, if I want to use a very small font, because I do not like constantly flipping pages, I can, if I want a larger font, because I can't see as well as others, I can.

More important to me, I read in the dark a lot, & the light from a white page, even on the dimmest setting of my PDA, is hard on my eyes, & hard for my wife to sleep. I use ereader, (Ubook also does this) & set the theme to "inverse", making the background black, foreground white, & it is soooo much easier on the eyes.

Also, most other readers open your books almost instantly, versus the nearly whole minute or so (it seems that long when you are waiting on msreader to open a simple book!!) it takes to open a book in reader.

The mere fact that so many other readers that must be paid for still continue to be popular, in spite of the fact that MS has made MSreader free, should tell you something.

All that being said, are there any softwares out there that allow you to simply load up a .lit file & export it to a .pdb file, no user interface at all?? I have a large library of .lit's, & would like to mass convert them all to .pdb, don't really care much how pretty the output is, so long as it is readable. ie, if it strips out chapters, images, covers, etc, I don't care, so long as the book is there.

Thanks,
Dave
