Microsoft Reader Activated for Microsoft Reader

I have an activation left on my account, yet I everytime I activate it reads "Activated for Microsoft Reader" rather than tiger_splash. It appears to be succesfully running. I get no errors. Any ideas?

I have legallv purchased a rather large library I wish to keep. if I lose my purchoses/money/library I will never purchase legally again. Microsoft is pushing innocent people away from ebooks with this insane Activation.

You can only activate something like 6 devices using the same account. So if you've been using reader for a while and have upgraded your PC/LT/PPC a couple times, you may have reached your limit.
I apparently hit my limit with my Axim. At least I still can read my old books on my PC or LT. But any I buy now can only be read on the ppc OR PC/LT, but not all three as I now have 2 different accounts. Don't even ask me what I think of this.
You can request an extra activation for your account here:

http://das.microsoft.com/activate/en...traDefault.asp

Maybe you'll have better luck than I did. Mine never went through.
Remember, anytime you reformat your hard drive OR hard reset your PPC, it counts as another activation.

I understand the limit problem, but I am not getting an error that says I have no available activations left. I am being told it is successfully completing; however, when I open up MS Reader it says it is activated for "Microsoft Reader" rather than the e-mail I use for my passport like on my computer.

Microsoft has made a grievous error if they believe that every American will only update their PPC or PC 6 times in a lifetime. Perhaps, I should not consider my book purchases as permanent. That would be easier to stomach were they not charging full price for the books.

I have friends that have downloaded most every book I have and more without ever paying. As much as my ethics tell me this isn't the answer these insane rules are making it the only alternative.

Try deleting all cookies and temporary internet files from your desktop and try again.

When I had difficulty with an activation I was also told via e-mail that the 6 activation limit is not a lifetime limit -- it resets itself something like every 6 months.
I could apply for the extra activation or just wait for the limit to timeout, which it did.

That is very good news. If it just a limit like that I will continue to read ebooks, which I love. I'll try deleting the cookies and internet files like you said later on. Maybe I'll try activating from a different machine, even.

Thanks

All:

Any Microsoft Reader activation that has been activated in the last few months and/or will be activated in the future will be marked as "Activated for Microsoft Reader" on the splash screen of the Reader. Please don't let this labeling mislead you. Your activations are still good and will still open with your credentials. We made this change in order to remain compatible with Passport 3.0 technologies. Should you for any reason fail to be able to open your secured titles please feel free to post back here or in the Microsoft Reader newsgroups Microsoft.Public.PocketPC.ebooks or Microsoft.Public.Reader for additional assistance.

Thank you,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Msreadergirl I'm glad to see you all are looking at these forums.
Have you seen "What would you like to see MS Reader do?" thread.
The date it started was 8/23/05. Those fellows made some really go suggestion. I'd like to see your response to them. I love to use my microsoft reader PPC.

That is truly madness! Soft resets are quite common with conflicting software!

If they want to lock it then there is a device ID they can lock too. But then, you don't pay anything for it anyway do you?!

Strange people these Microsoft. It's not as if you've got much choice with .lit files anyway!

I never got to thank everyone in this thread for your help. I am now reading all the books in my library without a problem and will still use Microsoft Reader for all my digitally protected purchases. Thanks!

Is it true that as time passes you regain your log ins or when I get a new PC and PPC in a year will I have to ask for more activations?

Dewey:

I am glad that there are still so many fans of the Microsoft Reader! Yes, I did read the thread you mentioned above. We are currently looking at all of the functionality of the Reader. More specifically what works and what doesn't work for our customers. Threads like this are extremely important and I encourage you all to post all of your suggestions so that we can incorporate them into our discussions. Of particular interest have been the discussions around what you would like to see from our installation and activation processes.

In the meantime if you encounter issues or have questions please feel free to post here or at one of the Microsoft Reader Newsgroup sites. I am always willing to help where I can.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Good to know you're out there Christine.
I'm the kind of person who has to have a book to read with me at all times. About two years ago I got my X5 and started using MS Reader.
I was hooked. I sold all my paperbacks and made a lot of room on my book shelves. I have not bought a paperback since then. I have about 30 books on my X5 at all times. Mostly novels but some reference. I know this product is not a money maker for Microsoft. So thanks to you all in the MS Reader Team for keeping in touch with your users and continuing to make improvments.

Sincerely
Dewey

Hard Reset, not soft reset.

I am having difficulty with my reader again. Recently, it has started deciding to loose the licensing about every two days. I have to both re-install and re-activate for it to decide to work again. Just re-activating doesn't do it (although it gives no error). I'd like to finish the one book I am on so that I may leave this terrible program. It is frustrating when I have more problems staying legal than any of my friend do with their pirated copies.

Tiger_Splash:

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues again. Can you tell me if anything has changed on your system (installed programs, upgrade, new hardware components, etc) that might be conflicting in any way? We haven't changed activation since August and the Reader hasn't changed since before that. If you can give me more details (offline if you like)I will do my best to help assist in any way that I can.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

I couldn't agree most that Microsoft is insane. The activation is inconvenient enough, but they to limit it to six devices is absurd.

Is there an ebook format converter ouit there?
