What would you like to see MS Reader do?

What's your wish list for MS Reader? When I started reading e-books a couple of years ago, I decided to pick MS Reader and stay with it, just figuring it was likely to be around for a while. Now I've bought a bunch of books, so looks like I'll stick with that format. It's okay, but there are definitely some things I would like to see added to it, such as:

* Being able to put books into categories. I buy them from www.fictionwise.com, which has them listed by category, as do other e-book sites. Why not be able to download that category and then organize your books by it?

* I'd really love to see a way to mark a book as having been read. I download a lot of trash novels, and often look at the title and can't remember if I've read it. It would be great to be able to get a list of my "unread" books. (I actually keep a list in Excel now.)

* When I sort by date acquired, would be nice if the list showed the author's name as well. In fact, I'd like to be able to choose how much information to show in the list.

* At least one of the other readers lets you choose backgrounds. I found one of their backgrounds much easier to read against than the MS Reader background.

Anyone else got any ideas?

I just want to be able to install and activate it in BIS instead of Main Memory without going through all the hassle.

I like your suggestions though. :)

Besides the ability to install in alternate locations, I would like a VGA version, and the ability to have a smaller print size (smaller than the current small).

I would like a choice of different backgrounds, also. Even on low light, that bright white sometimes hurts my eyes. Also would like the ability to put it somewhere else. I guess when WM2005 comes out it won't matter though.

Well yeah most of the programs will install to writeable ROM (Gotta! be a better way to say that.) but I don't think they're going to make MS Reader part of the OS again. Freedom of choice. Is what we want....

Font size

Boy, I sure wish I wanted a smaller font! One thing I like about the e-books is the ability to increase the size of the font :->. I put off getting the Dell because I was worried that the screen wouldn't be big enough to read e-books comfortably, but it's great.

Your request seems very out of place for someone with your sig line.

I mean, how much hassle is it to unzip a ZIP file with your backed up activation?

Actually gjw I'm going to change that tag line. I just don't have it in me anymore and even got caught without a recent backup last weekend while testing something for someone on the boards. Now just to keep things really interesting I've exceeded my activation limit with MS Reader somehow.

I also notice that the sort features don't always work as I expect in that some times the feature will miss a title.
But I have stuck with MS Reader for its simplicity more than any other reason.
So I don't really have a need to see it have doodads and bells and whistles added that I will not use anyway.

All-in-one would be awesome.Reads PDF's,.lit, even Word documents(in read only format.)The ability to write an e-book from the device would be nice as well.(Adobe Acrobat uses way too much program memory to run on my X30.It causes problems.)

I use eReader and its not a bad program. You can change the background.

What would be great for MS reader would be the ability to "read" various formats like pdf, lit, doc, txt, so that all the books you own won't be obsolete.

I would like to change the margins, there is too much space wasted.

Yeah, way toooo much space wasted in the margins. It would also be nice to have the font changable.

For example, it would be much easier to read if it was in a serif font (er, I think thats right!) such as Times New Roman rathern than Arial or whatever :(

One thing I miss on both Microsoft Reader and eReader is a 'progress bar' to indicate how far through the book you are. It's a bit disconcerting to arrive at the last page without any warning at all that you are nearly there!
