Need MS Reader Help

After updating to A05 on my X50V I started reloading my programs. However I keep receiving the same error on MS Reader. It is under msreader.exe and says "Cannot find 'msreader' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available." My libraries are still installed on my SD card just as they before I updated my Ax. I've installed to main memory, then tried BIS but with no joy. I checked MS Reader's homepage and updated but still get the same error message. Anyone got any good solutions to this problem?

It sounds like you reinstalled a backup from the previous ROM. What program did you backup with, and is MS Reader still in main memory?

We're thinking along the same lines and I know where you're gong with this. I removed MS Reader from my PC and rebooted. I've just now hard reset my Ax and will try to reinstall MS Reader after I download and install the latest version to my PC. I'll keep you posted.

You'll get it. I have to wait for the powers that be to grant me 1 new activation. Apparently 3PC's and 2 ROM Updates = 6 MS Reader Activations. I'm just glad 98% of my books don't require activation. ;)

I've got it working again but it took a bit more work. I removed MS Reader from my PC under Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs. I also hard reset my PPC and tried to install MS Reader on my PPC as the very first app but again with no joy. I hard reset again and rebooted my PC. After resyncing I noticed under Activesync, <Tools>, <Add/Remove Programs> the option to simultaneously remove MS Reader from both my PC and PPC which I did. Then I went to MS Reader's website and downloaded fresh versions of the latest and greates versions (again) and reinstalled first to my PC then to my PPC (in main memory), reinstalled my activation codes and I was back in business. Hope this helps anyone else having this issue after updating their ROM.

Easiest way to avoid the pain of asking MS for additional activations is to back it up; I do this and every ROM update etc I just paste the files back into the Windows folder and my original activation is restored:

http://channels.lockergnome.com/mobi...tivation.phtml

this link gives thinfo on how to do it.

Hope this helps

It's a great tip and I've been using it since Diane Dumas first posted it on PPC Magazine's Weekly Tips: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/_top/tiparchives.asp
This is the info if you don't want to scroll that far down: Saving Microsoft Reader Activation

If you want to read those e-books on your Pocket PC which have Digital Rights Management protection on them, you have to activate the MS Reader application from the Microsoft Reader Web site. Every time you do a hard reset on your Pocket PC, the activation is lost and you have to go through the whole process of activation again. There is a way to save your activation and carry it back to your Pocket PC after the hard reset. To save your activation do the following steps:

1. Click on the Activesync icon which is on the right hand side of the Taskbar on your desktop to pop up the Activesync window.
2. Click on the "Explore" option in Activesync to navigate the folders in your mobile device.
3. Go to My Pocket PC/Windows and copy the following files:
* secrepid.dat
* secrep.dat
* secrep.dll
* secrep.xml
* Microsoft Activation.unload
4. Create a folder with-in the My Documents folder on your desktop PC. You can give a meaningful name to this folder such as "Microsoft Reader Activation".
5. Paste all the above-mentioned files into this folder.
6. Now whenever you do a hard reset on your Pocket PC, you can copy and paste these files back into the Windows folder of your Pocket PC and your Microsoft Reader application will be activated automatically.

(To copy the above mentioned files successfully, you will need to make sure that the extensions of the files and hidden files appear in the listing along with the file names. In the ActiveSync Explorer window, go to Tools and click on "Folder Options...". Now click on the "View" tab. Make sure that the option which says, "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked. Also select the "Show hidden files and folders" option if it is not already selected.)

I've got a new tagline BTW. I'm going to say Soft-Resets are Our Friends. :)

I've got way to much media to store the backups on so Backup, Backup, Backup doesn't work for me anymore. After all I've been doing this stuff for 5 years. I think I'm going to give up the MVP thing after Redmond. Can microsoft really just want a regular albeit early-adopter user as an MVP?
