Will we ever see a PSP emulator for PPC?
Just a thought. I would be great to have but im guessing it would be slow as hell and very glitchy.

Still any ideas if one will ever be made?

No the CPU should be worse but the GPU is somewhat better... What would totally stop this is the fact PDAs don't have enough buttons.

We don't really have a great GBA emu. If PSP were to happen, it would be years before someone would do it. Plus you would need a bunch of storgage. And the controls would be as bad as it is on a snes emu.

I honestly don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of this ever happening - at very least on current devces anyway. Maybe in about 5-10 years time?

I don't know THAT much about emulators, but as already been mentioned, limited controls. Then you've got a different type of CPU - MIPS - to emulate... probably a big job. To make matters worse it's dual core...multiply the work by two, then maybe. Then you've got to allocate all the memory...32mb+ I think...as well as translate all the graphics functions and so on and so on...

It really is a very damn tall order... and as jcl says, we don't even have a fast GBA emulator yet, even though it has a similar CPU to the Axims and wayyyyy less difficult things to emulate.

In other words, I think you you can just go ahead and safely forget this idea for now... Why not just buy one anyway, for what it's worth..?

The answer is no. The psp can produce roughly 2,900,000 ( as i recall) polygons per second. Compared to The X50v wich can produce a max of 3-400,000 polygons per second. The Psp is an awesome device. However, this could easily be matched by dell if the demand was high enough. But, who is the target market? Teenagers like myself. Had I not purchaced my Axim x50mid, I too would have a Ipod Nano or a PSP. However, im stuck with it now, and it sits on my desk. The psp's audience was roughly 3 million people. The Dell axim is no where near as close (Just the Axim, not any other brands). Lastly, What game makers whould willingly make a game for a PPC when no extreme gamers would buy it??? Just a thought...

I couldn't agree with you more d0pefish and Swim100flyy! Not that many people know the technology behind the PSP. Lets think about it:

PSP= slightly downgraded PS2
A PS2 Emulator on PC can't even run on a high end or low end pc at a good descent FPS. When PS2 can be emulated on PC properly, I don't think Pocket PC's will be able to catch up for a very long time. So can a psp emulator exist and run on the pocket pc... you should be asking another question, Where's a good PSP emulator on PC that can run commercial games? There isn't one and everytime someone tries... Sony comes along with a lawsuit.
Thus I can say that without a doubt that a PSP emulator coming to the pocket PC is... never going to exist... ever.

More facts why a PSP emulator won't come to Pocket PC, we failed at making a N64 come to it once. Some may remember it as it couldn't use a Recompiler core. Failed considerably, it still won't be able to be tossed to a pocket pc now, even with WM5 and Dell Axim's X50v/X51v.

Here is some more facts, Nintendo DS would be possible on Pocket pc easily because there is an emulator that can run commercial games on PC very well... *cough* ensata *cough*. Even we at Morphgear were planning to make a Nintendo Ds emulator, but Marat has gone unto the "Missing for Months" list. A nintendo DS is not really powerful at all and can be easily emulated with patience on the developers part...

Thus going to the conclusion:
A PSP emulator is most likely not going to come as it is currently too powerful, some may disagree but it's true...

The PSP's CPU(s) are 333Mhz MIPS and have hardware floating point which means that they are likely more powerful than the ARM CPUs used in our PDAs.

Is the 2.9Mpolys/sec the real figure or just what sony says?

Hah, we are more likely going to see a Pocket PC emulator for the PSP, if anything. I would like a DS emulator, though.

The PSP has no dedicated graphics processor - it's all done on the CPU(s). And whether they are underclocked or not depends on the game. Most games released now are underclocked to 266mhz, but once we see more complex games coming out I expect they will start to use full 333mhz mode.
I don't think we will be seeing a PSP emulator any time soon on a PDA..

There is a MUCH bigger market for PSPs, and so yes, we are more likely to see PocketPC on a PSP, especially since early versions of WM ran on MIPS CPUs.

Yep, Im workin on encoding some dvd's right now. But transcout is right. The PSP is an awesome "machine." What I really want is a portable gaming labtop that is ultra small. I want to be able to play full speed computer games on it, and I want it to have a really small screen, mabe like 8" ???

Anny changes since then ? Devices have got more powerfull, faster procesors and new GPU's are avaible (like goforce 5500), more memory and storage space. Same question:

Will we ever see a PSP emulator for PPC?

Ar there anny people working on this?
