Emulator performance on an X51
Hey, I have a toshiba e310 right, I've had it for about 2-3 years and I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade. The pocket pc I'm leaning towards now is an Axim x51. I was curious though about the performance of NES and gameboy emulators on it. Right now, I use NES and gameboy games on my toshiba but I'm basically limited to RPG games due to button delays and the inability to press buttons simultaneously. So, I can't play games like mario or other aciton/platform games. I wanted to make sure that on an Axim x51, this wouldn't be a problem, and these types of games could be played comfortably. Also, out of curiousity, how is the performance of SNES games? Because, last time I checked, they usually didn't work too well. Has that changed since then? Thanks.

NES games should work just fine. The x50 can be overclocked to above 700mhz. This said, It can play NES at full speed. SNES and GBA have some lag, but not much. The biggest concern in my opinion would be that the buttons are very small, and are hard to press. Your option is to buy the chainpus Bluetooth control.

Funny you should ask, because I was just playing some SNES on my x51v. More specifically, I was playing Donkey Kong Country 3, with sound and a great framerate. I keep the CPU at Auto mode and see no issues, most likely because of the 2700g support. NES and Gameboy are no problem, and GBA roms are bearable. It's still a great emulation device.

Thanks, but how about what Swim100flyy brought up about the small buttons? Is that much of a problem?

The small buttons is a large issue for me. However, the other options available on the market right now are about the same size buttons. The axim has the best price and specs.

Well, if you think that the buttons are too small, there's always the Chainpus gamepad, which runs terrifically.
