PocketNester is locking me up!
Anyone else have occasional lock ups when using PocketNester?? I used the app for a few days with no probs, but last night it locked up twice while playing. I played again today with no problems, so...????????

Could it be the actual ROM that is locking up the Axim??? Anyway, any app that forces soft resets doesn't usually last long on my dear Ax. I do love PocketNester though, I can't imagine being without it now.

Hmm, I haven't had that problem with my PocketNester. Were you running any other programs at the time? I always stop all programs when I use PocketNester or PocketMVP to I can have all my RAM dedicated to running them. If you were running to many programs, maybe it didn't have enough memory to run smoothly.

smeg-

Wasn't running any other apps at the time. I also like to allot maximum RAM to an application when I'm using it. I guess I'll keep playing and see how it acts in the future. Like I said- it ran just fine today! Hopin for the best- I love PNester...

It really is great, isn't it. There just isn't anything more nastalgic (I have no idea how to spell that, but you get the idea) than sitting in a boring professors lecture, and beating Super Mario Bros. It is the sweetest nectar of life!

to get PN to stop crashing on my AX (400MHz w/256 SD card), I had to finally disable the speed throttling feature. It didn't seem to matter where I installed the roms or PN. I now run with no problems and have PN installed on the AX and the roms on the SD card. There's a speedup in games like mario brothers3 but nothing that's a problem

Looks like I have to ditch PocketNester. I installed to main memory and am still experiencing lockups on all ROMS. Not sure what else to do.

Disabling the speed throttling makes all of my ROMS play EXTREMELY quick. It's almost impossible to play titles like Mario or Donkey Kong. If anyone else has had similar probs, let me know of any other suggestions. Thanks again.

SAD DAY

sad day is right! since i mainly play rpg's the speed thang doesn't much matter to me.

you may want to try seeing if setting your cpu to run slower (set to PowerSave) in start->settings->power->processor slows things down enough to make your other games run slower.

you may also want to manually set with the number of frames skipped in the speed throttling setting rather than choosing the auto-frame skip. what's strange about the speed throttling setup is that the "skip frames" drop-down box is still enabled even when the "speed throttling" option is not chosen. it should be grayed out like "auto-frame skip" is. i haven't fully tested it, but it appears that disabling the speed throttling but setting the frame skip to 2 or 3 SEEMS to impact the frame rate of the games. try it and see if it works for you...

other people on this site seem to like the yame emulator and have had no problems with it. unfortunately, it doesn't work for me and i have yet to find a way to get pocketnester stable on my axim w/a03 firmware without disabling the speed throttling feature.

Thanks again Rodent.

I was able to install YAME last night with no probs. It seems to run as well as PNester- but you do lose some screen size.

I will continue to try using PNester with the options you mentioned. I didn't try PowerSave or Frame Rate before giving up on her. It'll be a shame if I don't get it to work!
