Believe it or not, that still violates copyright laws. And there are still many old games that make profit in one way or another.....just think of the large number of "Classic Games" packs that get released for PC, Playstation, etc. all the time. Although there might not currently be a profitable version of a game (like Bubble Bobble) out there, a manufacturer like Namco, Nintendo, or whoever could come along and include it in a "Retro Pack" at any time.

I'd like to comment on the original post about the lack of variety in PPC games.

IMO it's obvious that there isn't a very large market for PPC games. This causes developers to charge more for PPC games. And the fact is, I won't, and many other people won't, fork out $30can ($20 us) for a game that is about as detailed as one running on a 486.

Another point on the $$$ thing. Programming PPC games is just as hard and time consuming (if not moreso) than programming desktop computer games. The fact that the hardware is so limited and so many workarounds have to be coded in, is reason enough for the prices to be high. But the fact still remains that the quality just isn't there.

I think that until PPC's are created with massive amounts of "power to spare" like many of todays desktops, there won't be much of a gaming market on PPC.

Wow, I'm long winded Just my $0.02us ($0.03can)

Hehe....and this gets into the whole debate over....will PDAs even be around in a couple years, or will Tablet PCs take over? As has been pointed out many times by some other members here and at Tabletsite.....Tablet PCs will probably take over the roles of entertainment/multimedia/etc., while PDA functionality will be worked into Smart Phones that are already hitting the shelves.

It might turn out that way, but still PDA functionality will exist as an idea.....everyone needs a very portable electronic agenda, and TabletPCs are just not portable like PDAs Besides, a PDA can do all sorts of stuff, without having the bulk, weight, and price of a TabletPC, so for those people who just need to do those things and nothing else, TabletPCs will always be a nice gimmick......

On the other hand, the majority of phones will remain as small as possible, so that their "portability" is at maximum. If you go to a club, you dont need to carry your PDA, but you NEED to carry your mobile, hence a small sized phone will always be welcome

I agree with the portability issue, as a PDA is a lot easier to carry around campus than a Tablet PC, and probably a lot safer. I have looked at a few of the smart phones, but until they work out some battery life issues, I will steer clear.

commenting on TheAce's point....when I used to go to clubs, it's amazing that NEEDING a phone wasn't even an option. And now, I wouldn't go anywhere without one. I don't even use my phone but, it's the sense of security that keeps me carrying one.

As for Tablet PC's...given the choice today, I'd still rather have my PocketPC because of the size issue. I've tossed the idea around about getting a laptop but, the most basic functions I would use it for are still possible with my ppc. I'll hold off on either of these choices (laptop & tablet pc) until I see what happens with the tablet pc market....it's still too new.

I have a laptop, and a desktop, and my Pocket PC. My laptop battery will barely last an hour and a half.

Well, I also used to go to clubs without even knowing what a mobile phone is (much less need it ) but indeed these days its almost second nature......

As for the laptops, I have also toyed around with the idea of getting a new one (especially when I see "bargains", i.e 2200XP+ with 512MB and CDRW-DVD combos for 999E), but my Axim can do almost everything I want while on the road, provided I have a keyboard attached (and also have enough memory thourgh memory cards). So, whats the point of buying a laptop ?

Finally, the new generation of smartphones will be simply awesome (6600, P900 etc), and will have all these problems resolved. The issue of usability/portability remains though

Not to mention that you want something that is not only ultra-portable but something that only can see the screen on.

I dont want my boss knowing Im playing Final Fantasy instead of taking notes durring his borring meetings.

Also :-) .. sometimes I like to play a game while on the phone ... I guess you could use a speaker phone/PDA combo... but then you would need seperate VOL controls for voice and game sounds :-P

I use PocketNester when I am waiting in a dr. office, during a boring seminar, sitting in traffic... I use it because the games are easy to play, and you can stop/pause the game at anypoint. Also there is over 800 ROMs on the internet.... You can play all these games without installing a bunch of crap, without shareware issues, etc. Just plain clean simple convient fun. If you can show me another way I can stack 800 games on my 128mb SD card then speak up! Otherwise sit down and admit, Emulators Rock!!

Actually in my case, thought retro does seem to fit a whole lot in my case as well, I'd like to point out that the games back then didn't need as much "interaction" with the player than they do now. I mean how many "moves" could you make with a joystick and one button? Now if you want to do this, you have to press one button, another to do that, a combination of button 2+3 and the up arrow to do that.. etc.. it was way more simpler with the games back then.
