PocketDos Gone?
I recently purchased a copy of pocketdos but the company they use for purchasing wasn't able to generate a code for me and it was mentioned it might be down permanently and offered me a refund. Their site offers no contact info at all (even their billing co. cais they had a "crappy website." Anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

I don't think it's discontinued: they have just released a new version (which I'll review very soon, along with all the other x86 emulators).

Menneisyys is correct.

There is a new release (May 1st, 2007) that I just downloaded (longtime registered owner).

The "Rapid Share" site is the same download site used by Pocketdos for many years.

I'll let Menneisyys work his magic with a technical review; however, I did notice some strange things with this revision on my X51V:

(1) Settings option causes the "OK" button on top right to disappear, making it impossible to exit the settings configuration. I found a work around by pressing the "WirelessPower" button that causes the "OK" to redisplay

(2) Com1 redirection selects a non-sensical .

I admit, I don't use this app as much as I did with my X5, since it was used primarily for data collection of RS-232 equipment using the fine DOS Procomm Plus application. (I don't have a RS-232 cable yet for my X51V).

However, it does appear quicker than previous verisions and the plugins seem to work nicely (Although you can still only load one at a time).

Good Luck...

is there any way to use a built-in keyboard with 1.12 as you could with 1.11?

Yes.

Works fine with my micro innovations irda keyboard.

Simply disable the display of the onscreen keyboard in the "Keyboard Configuration" menu.

one more question, do the plug-ins to 486 work with the new version (i.e., can I sill run sierra games like KQ4 & 5 and PQ 2)? Thanks!

This was answered above.

Both the Bochs 486 dll and the co-processor dll work ... but only one at a time.

You do know that you can check all this yourself, since the app works in demo mode until you can get your registration straight

Dear Sir,

Please post the details of any problems you're having with PocketDOS to the PocketDOS Support Forum, so that we can address them.

Thank you for your input.

Dear Sir,

We are a bit confused by this last comment. What do you expect to achieve by loading more than one CPU emulator plug-in at a time? Or as both CPU emulator plug-ins contain built-in FPU emulators, what do you expect to achieve by simultaneously loading an FPU emulator whilst using a CPU emulator plug-in?

Thank you for your custom.

Hey PocketDos. Thanks for the info and the update to 1.12 (I still have to do that). One thing, I've tried posting a couple of questions on your site and they always get deleted and asked to post somewhere else though I'm having a hard time figuring out where the right place is and I never get any help. Have you thought about maybe loosing up a bit since the goal is to help people? Just a thought.

You won't need even 286 support to run these (old) games - they all run even on XT's.

Thanks Menneisyys. I'm looking forward to your next article on playing dos games on the ppc (mentioned in your reply from a comment on your guide to Sarien).

Dear Sir,

Due to technical problems, we had to move the forum to a new server recently, but we have not deleted any of your (or anybody else's) messages. We did move one of your messages from where you posted it (in a 'sticky' thread intended to provide information) to it's own thread. But as you've been posting in the new thread, we expect that you are aware of that. It is somewhat unfair to say "they always get deleted and asked to post somewhere else though I'm having a hard time figuring out where the right place is and I never get any help", as none of your posts have been deleted and all of your queries have been answered.

Unfortunately we cannot provide detailed instructions on how to configure PocketDOS for particular DOS applications, because frankly there are too many applications and too many people asking. We do post general 'how to' threads for this type of information, and this is what we referred you to when you asked a 'how do I get application X to run?' type question.

Thank you for your custom.

Guys and gals, don’t forget to check out my brand new, MS-DOS / x86 emulation-related article at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=153194

(Sorry for flooding – IMHO, this article certainly deserves attention because it answers ALL the questions a Windows Mobile user may want to EVER ask about emulating MS-DOS. Make sure you read it!)
