actually ip law is very similar on both sides of the atlantic...its been tailored that way because its an area that so often involves international scope.

As to cmms, I wasn't arguing. I was merely sustaining a relevant point. The wonderful thing about these forums is that everyone is entitled to their opinion, not least you. To argue on the internet is among the more futile things one could possibly do.

Anyway, I've ceased to care what the thread originator did or did not want to know.

There is certainly a very legal purpose for ROMs and Emulators. Developers use Microsoft's Pocket PC emulator to test their software. Nintendo uses Gameboy emulators to test their games. Connectix sells a legally licensed Windows emulator called VirtualPC so Mac users can run Windows software.

The simple definition for "Emulator" is a program that allows you to run or "emulate" a peice of hardware/software out of its native environment. These utilise ROM images for the software.

Downloading a copyrighted game/program for free and running it in an emulator is NOT LEGAL. You can't keep it for 24 hours and then delete it, nor can you download it if you already own the game. You are basically stealing that game from the company without purchasing it.

'Nuff said.

Seeing as how this thread is becoming very repetitive on the information that is being posted (yes, including myself), I think it's time for it to come to an end. All valuable information/opinions seem to have already been posted.

Thread Closed.
