I don't really care about it either.....I just like to be an a$$hole and prove people are wrong.

Only when I know they are, of course.

Well my motto is...

"Never take IT advice from a person with a 18 month old PDA in their Avatar"

Admin's bench isn't really true

Spb benchmark scores:

A620I = 1572.3

Axim X3 = 1177.1

These results can be found on the net And I have scored 1688 with an Asus A620I... X3 is 15-45% slower in all tests.

Ok, Kito take a look at this page. These are the results of the benchmark for my X3i. Yours is 15-45% slower in the tests. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...threadid=32878

Its not my benchmark. Jordan got them off the internet, not sure where, but I trust his sources. I scored 1621.8 with mine, but whats the point? As I always have said, benchmarks are a total waste of time and have no bearing on true performance of a PDA. The X3 is not 15%-45% slower in all test and if I even cared about this I would prove it to you with tests done by PPCT, Pocket PC Mag and others that have no affiation with this site. Its easy to post a benchmark and not back it up Kito.

Exactly right, James. Benchmarks are not an indicator of "true" performance. They just offer an estimated average for comparison sake. In the real world though (actual usage), performance will vary greatly from benchmark results.

The benchmark scores that were noted above by James, were found by myself from about 3 various benchmarks around the web. The X3i came from Chris' Aximsite review....can't remember where the others were from, but they were from "trusted" sources....not just random websites.

If any of you are that caught up in benchmarks, and won't trust the ones on the web.....then go spend the money to buy every PDA on the market yourselves, and do the testing on your own.

Well I dont quite have every PDA on the market yet, but I am working on it.

Now, I have come across a bit of this discussion on my forums, and I have become interested. But all I have seen so far is numbers from benchmarking programs, which usually doesnt say very much about performance. Can any of you load up quake with the default config, and get the fps from the first demo? That is usually a very good way to judge performance.

Thanks,

my X5 works fine with morphgear
I've spent some time trying to get some decent game emulation on my Axim X5 Advanced. I purchased my X5 last year so my starting point was Rom version A02 with pocket pc 2002.
My initial tests found that pocket snes and pocketgenesis were far too slow to be playable. Recently I tried Morphgear and I was impressed. Sonic Advance wasn't bad. Mario Kart was almost playable . I installed Turbo Tray 498 to overclock the Axim and this also improved performance. However the best thing I did was to upgrade the ROM to A04. Under pocket pc 2002, this gives a huge performance boost. Also have a look at some of the glyph cache hacks(regking makes it easy, registry editors give you more control) which allow more memory for graphics. There's lots of info if you do a search on overclocking in the X5 general forum (try http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread/t-5585.html for starters. By installing all the software to the built on storage, you can free up more memory for programs, which in my case let me configure the glyph cache up to 32k. don't bother with sound emulation though, it's slooow and choppy

Under 2002, the best GBA emulation performance I was able to achieve used the following steps:
- upgrade to A04 Rom release
- overclock the Axim (initally turbo tray works well, although I've since found XscaleCtrl to be even better
- install all the software to the built in storage to allow for glyph cache hacks to improve screen redraw.

This weekend however I've upgraded to wm2003. There is a lot of debate on these forums about whether it's worth it or not. My 2c is that Morphgear on my Axim emulates a lot faster now. I still can't emulate sound on Genesis or GBA games, but SNES games can. And with the CPU set to max performace the Genesis version of Sonic 1 is almost too fast. never thought I'd say that! The only issue after that is that the control system is a little fiddly and I'm a little wary of too much gameplay as I don't want to wear out the buttons / DPad.

How do your benchmarks make Admin's benchmarks untrue? Two different benchmarks can come out very different, it doesn't mean 1 is wrong.

And benchmarks != performance in any case.

A 1.6ghz Centrino will benchmark much slower than a Pentium 4 Mobile 2.2ghz, but the Centrino will outperform it. Intel itself admits this (they use it in their Centrino ads).
