afaik , the answer is "mmmm..sort of".
You can load up gba games that have been copied from their carts and converted into files called "roms ", on an emulator (a program that mimics the archictecture of another peice of hardware , in this case the gba.
theres a program called morphgear that emulates the gba as well as the the gb,supernintendo, sega megadrive and mastersystem and a few others.
but!! it runs slowly at the moment (for the gba games anyway), I'm not sure if its playable.
plus the emulation scene is a bit of a grey area as its easy to download roms of games you dont own (which is baaaad mmm 'k )
...short answer is , buy yourself a gba if you want gba games right now ..
if you want to check out morphgear its available on
www.morphgear.com , its not free ($20) though although you can test games with the unregestered version..

I found a piece of software called "gnuboy" which is freeware; I don't know if it caters for GBA. Just Google for it and you'll find many sites connected with it. Let us know if it works if you try it.

gnuboy only emulates GBC/GB. With an Axim X3, several GBA games will run at full speed or at least very playable. I suggest downloading a Pocket HackMaster and overclocking to 528 MHz for better peformance. Morphgear is currently the fastest GBA emulator today. I have found the following games to be very playable on my Asus A620:

Golden Sun (characters dissapear and blink but full speed)
Fire Emblem (perfect frame rate during battles and conversations)
Super Mario Kart Super Circuit (Plays perfectly)
Love Hina Advance
Chu-Chu Rocket
Super Robot War D

i agree with asdf, morphgear seems to be the fastest around at the moment for gba emulation. there are certain games where fps is not as important such as advance wars and advance wars 2 that run great on morphgear. games with more realtime action like madden 2004 do run slow. but i think if you want to run fast gba games.............ummm get a gba

it depends, some games (i.e. Final Fantasy Tactics, Metroid Zero, SF 2 Alpha) are meant to be slow...it maximized the power of the GBA to render the game (rendering many overlayers, for GDI (xscale) applications like morphgear will make it really really slow) but other games such as Metroid Prime, etc etc will be a lot faster (simple layers)

Try beta Picard's tweaked x50v driver and I'll bet you fps jump to 30 fps if you aren't already using it.

ps 30 fps w/ sound is perfectly playable without noticable slow down.
