MorphGear on x50v
I'm a potential x50v buyer. I currently have the x30 high and love the perfomance of playing SNES games and Nintendo games with MorphGear and a NES emulator.

I always play the SNES with the sound off...SOOOO...what i'm wondering is does anyone or has anyone ran morphgear on the x50v with the sound off?

how is the prefomance of the x30h compared to the x50v ?

I don't use Morphgear. I use PocketSNES on my X50v, the emulamer modded one with the GAPI tweak and notice no lag at all in games with sound on. I have about 20 games still zipped in the filestore and it works great. I stopped looking for games for PPC's after i got the X50v because it can play them so much better then my h2215 ever did or didn't.

The games runs pretty smooth on the x50v as well. I tested it with GBA games which should actually take more CPU cycles than SNES games but nevertheless much smoother than my X5.

Given that the high X30 and high X50 use the same processor, should the SNES/GBA emulation performance be the same on both, or does the X50v's graphics capabilities give it an edge? Glad to hear the X50v can run SNES games fine with sound on. Is GBA emulation with sound choppy at all, or is it as good as an actual GBA?

I also own an X30 High and am considering buying an x50v, and I am also very interested in Morphgear speed. I have heard that VGA really slows down gaming. Does this apply to Morphgear, or does the graphics accelerator help keep it running fast? From this thread, I gather that GBA emulation is improved; is it safe to assume that SNES would also be the same or better?

Apparently, the new main developer of the SNES morphgear module has an x50v, so maybe we'll see some optimizations in the future...

One other question: Are the buttons on the x50v decent for gaming? I absolutely hate the buttons on the X30. Actually, it's not the buttons so much, it's the D-pad.

I have owned both devices... Morphgear performance is insignificantly slower on the X50v as compared to the X30 when using the GAPI tweak. So, bottom line, as far as upgrading goes- Morphgear speed is no reason to upgrade, however, there is no significant decrease in speed that would be a reason against upgrading...
The buttons on the X50 are a crapload better for games. The d-pad is less elongated, plus all of the buttons, including the d-pad, are MUCH softer to press.

Actually Tala's OGL ES version of PocketSNES is much, MUCH better than Morphgear with the sound off (with the exception of a slightly lower compatibility). It will run practically every SNES game at a full 30FPS at only 520Mhz so you can conserve battery power. Plus it runs at a full smoothly resized resolution in both landscape and portrait. Oh, and there's no tearing (a problem with GAPI that I really hate).
