Morphgear demo & .gba sounds
I downloaded Morphgear and the demo VGBA module to try it out last night. The games seem to run fine but the sound on every game is just static and fast clicking on the x50v regardless of the settings. Is this a limitation of the VGBA module being a demo or am I missing something....??

Thanks in advance for any assistance

You may want to try Gapi, it should make the gaming emulation faster, sound included. If your getting an access violation when trying to switch Morpgear's driver to gapi, plz post here again or on the Morphgear forums. Overclocking makes the sound emulation slightly better but sometimes not enough (some games make you want to rip ya' ears off). This is a bug in the sound emulation core. The genesis module (Generator) has almost the same problem. The other modules(snes, turbo-16, etc.) are actually fine except for iNES and VGB (other words the nintendo and gameboy/color modules)
which sound like a lead pipe hit both of them (it's fine but the sound could be much better). Marat, who made the modules you have to buy (or try the demo of) , is making updates to his emulator and will be soon port them to Morphgear. All of them have actually recently been updated except for VGBA (gameboy advance emu) which will most likely be updated next week or next month. Did he fix the sound isshues, we'll have to see when he releases them for Pocket PC !
Oh, and if you have any problems, questions, or suggestions, don't be shy. Visit the morphgear Forums. We have five moderators and the morphgear community who will be happy to help anyone out. I've also gone LIVE on Morphgear via Instant Messenging, so anyone who wants to chat about Morphgear, It's progress, or anything you want to talk about, I'm usually on after 5 at night. Maybe not this week though because I'm pimpin'
out my dorm ! Hope to catch you on our forum!

Oh Great! A well thought out response with helpful advice. Just what I needed Thanks!!

I tried GAPI last night and it locked-up but I have to admit I didn't know what I was doing. I just recall seeing a GAPI tweak on the x50 forum and read that it helped with emu's so I figured that is what I should be using. Tried it again tonight and got the same result, no sharing violation, just a hard lock.

I saw something in another thread about hacking the morphgear.exe (not the installer) that might help so I guess I will try that. FWIW I am using 2.3.0.2 - I know that because it is still hard locked on my screen... 3-2-1 soft reset....

Thanks again

Well that didn't work, after the hack it uses Qvga mode and a) the sound is no better and b) the frame rate drops like a rock.... After restoring the original .exe it locks-up when starting because the GAPI driver is still being loaded... looks like a reinstall is in order.

Rather than reinstall I installed the GAPI tweak and it got things working again and allowed me to change the mode from GAPI to GDI (Lord knows I am probably getting deeper in dodo here). Using GAPI mode messes everything up; screen is oversized (overscanned) and unusable. Use 2700 mode in the GAPI tweak driver and GDI in Morphgear and everything runs as good or better than it did before but still no sound. <sigh> Still deciding if I should buy - I WANT SOUND IN .GBA!!

I think I have posted this eleven million times on these forums, but here it goes... Version 2.1.0.0... 100% compatibility with the X50v, better SNES speeds than newer versions. I have tried the GBA module just for the hell of it (that mario kart game that is kind of a cross between super mario kart and mario kart 64) and it worked flawlessly. Sure, it was only 15 fps or so, but that's all I really expect for GBA emulation. Very playable.

To tell you the truth, the gba module can play almost any game (except 3 or 4, I don't remember) without sound with extremely playable speed! Less than half of the games work well in the speed with sound apartment. Both Metroids, astroboy, the megaman series, and a few others I have tested have good sound emulation for gba. Games like the new Zelda game, Mario Pinball, and many others have horrible sound emulation! Why? There needs to be an update to the sound core (so it doesnt matter what early version of Morphgear you have) and Marat is going to be updating his gba emulator very soon. Like I mentioned before... we will see what happens soon...

I don't have any problems with the 2.3.0.2 version since futzing around with the GAPI stuff. All of the .GBA games I have run very fast @ 3-5 frame skip (I would say better than 15fps to my eyes). If the frame counter is somewhat accurate, it shows 30+fps on most games. I don't have any SNES games so I can't try that.... I did get sound in Astroboy after upping the frame skip to 6 and turning off smoothing abiet with popping and clicking.

One issue with racing games, Crazy Taxi and Zero GP, is that while it shows the vehicles and steers very well, the race tracks and backgrounds are not displayed which basically makes them unplayable...
