How do you use FPSEce? Very newbie question.
Hi,

Sorry if this may seem really dumb to some of you, but I have never used emulators before and I am completely baffled as to what to do. I have an Axim x50v and just downloaded the FPSEce v0.09.4 and don't know what to do next. The file didn't have a Setup file so I assumed you just copy it into the PDA. So i copied it into the BIS and when I tried to ran the .exe file, my axim froze. What am I supposed to do next??

From my searching, I keep reading about Picard's GAPI tweak. What exactly does that do and do I need it to run PS1 games??

Does anyone have any additional tips that can help me? Thanks. I'm really stumped.

if you have the latest A03 Rom update then you will have to wait a bit for a new FPSECE since A03 killed it.

Actually, I got it working now (with A03). I am running Crash Bandekoo but it is soooo slow to the point where it is not practical to play. Is there any PS1 games that run smoothly?

I am still not sure what the GAPI tweak is about? What is GAPI? Do I need the tweak?

Yeah, also want to talk about the GAPI tweak too, when I installed it a couple of months ago, many of my "Settings" just disappeared!! I had to hard reset in order to get them back. It was weird, I lost many settings on my x50v just for the sake of the GAPI tweak that I didn't even use, so I tried to delete it and I did, but my settings were still gone, so I just had to hard reset

You need to find a Bios....Search on google for a US Playstation Bios....Put that in the BIos folder. Next U should probably get GAPI. Also, do not compress the game, and Disable the sound. Hit the sound Icon on the screen...........

Does the compression of the video game have an effect on the speed of the game? A playstation game usually has a 400MB file size, correct?

I got the bios, there are so many versions out there. I got the SCPH1001 version. Does the version make a difference?

Ok, but what does GAPI do exactly? What is the benefit of the GAPI tweak?

Does compression and sound slow the game down?

It's kinda like sharing ROM's, yeah - the BIOS you need depends upon the format of your ISO. If your ISO is PAL (Europe) You'll need a file called "scph7502.bin" If, on the other hand, your ISO is NTSC (US) You'll need "scph1001.bin" IIRC

Googling those file names will provide relevant linkage

Oh, and if you need a different BIOS, just give us a shout
**Taken from Hoodmeister

Next, Put this Bios in the BIOS Folder...

Yes, compressing does significantly slow down the game emulation.

btw, I have found that racing and intense action games actually run faster than slow puzzle games...

Hmm.. I thought x50v couldn't really do PSX games like the other models...
Maybe it's high time I got a CF card and got into this if they're playable since I have no intention of upgrading to A03. Anyway, what speeds are everyone getting with and without sound? Battles in Chrono Trigger are getting about 5fps and the lag is still unnoticeable due to the menu design.

Heres the catch....About half of the X50's work. Its all chance if it will work. If u can run the program, u can play the game. However, if u cant even open the program, ur unlucky and wont be able to use fpsece...

half? where did you get these statistics.. I've tested fpsece on 4 axim x50vs and it works perfectly on all of them..

make sure you download emulamer's x50v gapi fix and run it in 2700g mode.. also make sure you download the fixed version of fpsece 0.94.. the initial release wouldn't run, but they did a second build shortly afterwards that works fine. www.fpsece.net

some games that I loved on the playstation that work great are front mission 3, xenogears, final fantasy tactics and suikoden.. finished half of front mission 3 so far.. these rpg's I leave uncompressed..

there are some guides on the fpsece forums for ripping.. these are pretty good since you can get some crazy sizes for the games. I have ridge racer at 4mb and wipeout xl at 15mb..

How can u get a playstation game in 4mb????I find that extrrreeemely hard to believe....I have rage racer @ 700mb.....Did u mean 400mb, and 150mb? I dont believe those sizes are right...why would sony use a whole (800mb) cd, and only use 4mb of it?

yes it's true.. look on the fpsece forums for instructions.. the original ridge racer cd is mostly cdda data, and once you rip that out and compress the program and data files it comes out to 4mb..

you can rip out cdda and movie files and still have a playable game.. compression did not seem to affect the framerate at all, though logically it should.
