Chrono Trigger help
Okay, i'm having trouble trying to catch the damn rat in the basement of Arris Dome. I'm blaming the X50v's small buttons and my big clumsy fingers.

Is there anyway around having to catch him for the password?

Except unfortunately the save files from the computer do not work with Morphgear, or at least GBA ones don't...

Save On Computer
I had the same problem at points... So...
Here is how I play chrono trigger...

I use ZSNES(PC) and PocketSNES(PocketPC).Then play it on ZSNES and save it within the game and then copy the SRM file to your PocketPC's Rom directory. You can load from your pocketpc the same way. copy the SRM file to your PC ROM directory and open it the same way. Again DO NOT USE SAVESTATES these will not work, only the actual real ingame save creates and SRM file. If you really wanna get creative. Have your Chrono rom and srm file in your sync folder. That is what I do...

I say again. SRM file not savestate files...

Should look like this.
chrono.smc
chrono.srm

chrono.zst <Savestates for ZSNES
.zs1
.zs2

P.S.
NOTICE MY SIGNATURE. I am all about CT baby!!!

I just finished Chrono Trigger last week and that part you're stuck at now is definitely the toughest part of the game when playing with a x50v,
I tried changing the Processor speed to Power Saving which kinda slows the game down, also playing around with the frame-rate, setting the A button to Autofire, and just trying to catch the rat over and over again,
don't worry, if I was able to catch it, eventually you'll get it too!

I used pocket snes and lowered the frame rate skip to 0, in the display section of the menu. It slows your game-speed down so much that you anticipate the different turns. Also go after the rat from the bottom of the maze and not from the top, it was just easier for me. It will take you maybe two or three turns at that speed to get the hang of it.

You'll know that you caught up to the rat when Chrono starts flashing, just press A and then you got him.

okay, slowing down the processor speed to 208mhz made it ALOT easier.

Glad to hear it!
Now that you've passed the toughest part of playing the game on the x50v, you can just enjoy the rest!

One more note though, when I played it, I never saved the game in the game itself, I always just used "Save Position" as provided by the emulator, not the best idea... at least when you're nearing the end.
Once you near the end of the game, try to remember to save the game from the game at least once, you'll discover why after you finish the game.
