Several weeks ago I wrote an article about the long anticipated Marketplace for Mobile.

I lost interest in it almost as soon as I finished crossing my ts and dotting my i for that article. Other than setting up the website so now you can shop from your computer, I don't see that any of the major limitations I discovered and discussed in my article have been addressed by Microsoft....still there's no way (official) way to install software to a storage card (in many cases, even when the storage card is full).

I'm really disappointed in Microsoft over this.

What do you think of it? Are you shopping there at all?

I've got two different WM6.5 phones, the HP Glisten and the HTC Touch Diamond2, that I've been working with now for the last several weeks and I'm wondering what other users with this OS think of it?

At first I really liked it...it is pretty and the user interface is a refreshing change, but now that I've been living with it for a while, I'm starting to think it's actually a step back from WM6.1.... having to open up and sort (scroll) through the Start page every time I want to open an application or work with settings is getting old quick.

What do you think about it? What do you like and dislike?

I'll be going to the Microsoft MVP summit next week and I'd like to provide some useful feedback (that's not just my opinion) during some of the sessions there.

I been hanging out here for a while now, starting out with the IPAQHQ forum, which became MobilitySite and then was combined with Aximsite. In my early days, I lurked around Aximsite and learned a lot there, but since I owned an IPAQ pocket pc, I was reluctant to join Aximsite even though I'm sure I would have been welcomed there.

Over the last couple of years we've seen a lot of new devices enter the handheld (for lack of a better word) marketplace. I've seen regular members of Aximsite, IPAQHQ and MobilitySite disappear.....maybe because they've gotten busy with the business of life or maybe because they've moved on to a different mobile device. I think lots of folks drop by from time-to-time to see what's happening here on MobilitySite.

I've stuck with HP IPAQs, and now I've got a bunch of them. My list of IPAQs includes,

IPAQ h1945 (runs windows mobile 2003): Now working as my Kitchen organizer.

IPAQ hx2415 (runs windows mobile 2003se): This one's my workhorse and I still carry it with me just about every day.

IPAQ rx1950 (runs WM5.0 classic): In semi-retirement

IPAQ hw6925 (branded for AT&T & runs WM5.0 professional) - my 1st Windows Phone: This one took a plunge in the porcelian pool a year ago, still works, but is sometimes unpredictable. It's pretty well devoted as the primary GPS device for my car.

IPAQ Data Messenger (runs WM6.1 professional): My sometimes phone

IPAQ Voice Messenger (runs WM6.1 standard) - my 1st non-touchscreen Windows phone. I have to say I am "in love" with this phone. It is light weight, dependable and, once I figured out how to work with the buttons (versus a touchscreen), it is easy to use.

IPAQ HP Glisten (runs WM6.5 professional): My newest addition to the family. I've enjoyed working with the new features of WM6.5, but I'm not in love with this OS.

I've also branched out a little to HTC phones and I've got a couple of those:

HTC Fuze (runs WM6.1 professional): I used this as my primary phone for about a year, and I'm sorry to say its position has been usurped by the WM6.5 phones

HTC Touch Diamond2 (runs WM6.5 professional): I'm really loving this device and it could easily take the place of my trusty workhorse (the IPAQ hx2415).

I've been a Microsoft MVP for the last 3 years, and I'm pretty well vested in windows mobile, got lots of wonderful software and I'm looking forward to seeing what Windows Mobile 7 looks like, although I am a bit concerned about what I am reading on the rumor mill.

I'm not that interested in the iPhone, but I am somewhat intrigued by the Android phones and have even gone out and looked one over. If I decide to look at another OS, it will definitely be the Android...but I'm sure I'll still be enjoying the use of my windows mobile toys too.

It's weird though that I saw them at Newegg Mall instead of the regular Newegg. But here they are: http://www.neweggmall.com/

Here's what they have:
64gb = $164.00
128gb = $349.00

As a new user, I am ignorant of the history of Aximsite and would like one or two of the elders to have a trip down memory lane for the Newbies amongst us.

I'm a newbie to the Axim of course, but certainly not a newbie to the pocket pc, calculator and pda worlds, having been a Hewlett Packard enthusiast with my (still owned) beloved HP200LX, HP100LX and numerous RPN calculators over the years now reduced down to a single HP48GX. Then there was a little sojourn into Apples Newton, a skirmish with a few variants of Palms offerings finishing up with a Tungsten E a few years ago, and now the Axim X30.

It seems that Aximsite, dedicated to the Axim line, has had it's glory days and Mobilitysite has a diversity of many devices, so some history for the latecomers to the Axim table would be appreciated.
