Install cygwin wherever. I installed to C:/cygwin

What is with cygwin? To install, it wants to download a buch of files off the internet and stuff. Things like coreutils.tar.bz2 and such. Is this correct? The stuff is downloading right now to C:/cygwin

Ok im on WM2003 again. Fresh off a hard reset with around 40megs free ram. This is AWESOME!!! It runs it perfictly playable and with sound. I cant believe it. I can edit ingame settings and make it look better (slower) or lower it down to smooth it out a bit but all in all its almost just like on my p2 266 back in the day lol. Heck it even loads a ton faster..
Great job man. If there is any more optomizing you can do to it it can only make it better.

Again Congrats. (Also making it work in WM05 will be a challange in itself.

I wonder if putting it all in RAM will make it faster then off a CF card?
I've freed up 60.8 MB of ram for this. I could probably get upto 75 mb ram if needed.

Noo. the game itself will not go faster if you had it in ram. (load faster but not run faster) Now i did notice some of my 3d apps in WM05 ran better than in WM03 so maby that new os will have some nice advantages whenever it gets fixed. In the meantime im getting a kick out of this. Its way more fun and playable then CUBE. Cube needs to take a look at optomizations like this. This is flat out awsome.. The only time i have a bad issue is when i try to load more than 3 bots from the start. It locks then when i soft reset it goes into an endless loop. No biggie but i hope that gets fixed someday. In the meantime i was able to start a multiplayer game and load up 7 bots from within. Slow but it worked lol. I also notice that changing Geomotry detail and texture detail doesnt seam to do much for performance. Though turning it from default to 32 bit color and textures does slow it down a bit. (As for textures the first level DM0 Has messed up ground textures and not all the special effects work but the next few levels look just as if it did on the pc..
Also the shotgun works fine.. No crash from playing yet.

Still this is pure awesome. Thanks again.

I've run cygdrive and get nothing. How do you know when its done?
I've used:
bash ./pakconvert C:/quake3/demo/
but it says no such file or directory.
I did run:
bash ./pakconvert.sh C:\quake3\demo\
with no luck. I also put the "\" in facing the way "bash ./pakconvert.sh C:\quake3\demo\" said with no luck.
All it did was put a ">" on the next line.

Can someone give a little more detail please?

After running cygdrive, active sync no longer runs and I cannot sync. Absolutely nothing was changed. It was working before trying to convert. I've never had a single problem with AS for over one year. THis is the first time I have never been able to sync. I've also did a backup restore on the PDA with no luck. I just wont connect. Any suggestions?
After re installing AS I get the following prompt:
New device found:
Dell Axim USB sync
However active sync never finds the pda. What gives? Its scanned all my ports and doesn't find a thing. Dam!

Odd. It works even with the full Quake3 Pak0 file.. but no video. How did you get it to show the intro video's on your x50v man? I see on the site something about TCPMP but i still get dropped straight to the menu. (Id like to view them to make this as close to PC perfict as i can heh)

Did you for sure do this step correctly?
Quote:
cd X:/quake3/q3ce/pakconvert/
If you aren't in the directory where the .sh script is, it won't do anything except show the next prompt ">" ready for some entry.

try doing "ls" without quotes to make SURE you SEE the pakconvert.sh file in the current directory first.

Sorry a little late, but for others with questions : I just did the default options. I really didn't feel like tweaking the install, and the servers are fast.

Sorry, I dont understand "ls". Where would I type this?
The lockation of my sh file is:
C/quake3/q3ce/pakconvert/pakconvert.sh

There is a bunch of .exe files in pakconvert, (7za, basename, bash, convert, cp cut, ffmpeg, find, grep, le, mkdir, mv, rm, unzip, zip). Even an "ls.exe" Am I not supposed to use any? The directions in the previous post mentioned nothing.

Also, is the conversion process using cygen supposed to generate a file somewhere so I can verify it worked? I still dont know what to look for to see if it worked correctly.

This time while running:
bash ./pakconvert.sh C:\quake3\demo
without the last \ I get:
c:quake3demo is not a valid Quake 3 installation directory!

This time I get:
bash ./pakconvert C:/quake3/demo/
Usage: pakconvert <path to quake 3 installation>
C:quake3demobash is not a valid Quake 3 installation directory!

P.S. I do have quade 3 demo installed on my PC if it matters under C:Q3Ademo

ok.. I modified the pakconvert.sh file to run with the quake3 demo..

1. rename the pakconvert2.sh.txt to pakconvert2.sh
2. run it with bash pakconvert2.sh c:\q3ademo
Attached Files:
File Type: txt pakconvert2.sh.txt (2.7 KB, 41 views)

I renamed pakconvert2.sh.txt to pakconvert2.sh
placed the converted file in folder:
c/quake3/q3ce/pakconvert along with the original pakconvert.sh file
I've run the following commands after changing the comand prompt to
lorne@serpa4 /cygdrive/c/quake3/q3ce/pakconvert:
At the $ I typed:
bash ./pakconvert C:quake3/demo (no such file or directory)
bash ./pakconvert C:quake3/demo/ (no such file or directory)
bash ./pakconvert2 C:quake3/demo/ (no such file or directory)
bash ./pakconvert2.sh C:\quake3\demo\
bash .\pakconvert2.sh C:\q3ademo/
bash pakconvert2.sh c:\q3ademo
bash ./pakconvert2.sh C:\q3ademo (usage: pakconvert <path to quake 3 installation. C:q3ademo is not a valid quake 3 installation directory!

I have the following files on my computer:
C:quake3
C:quake3/baseq3
C:quake3/demo
C:quake3/extras
C:quake3/pointRelease
C:quake3/q3ce
C:quake3/q3demo
C:quake3/check for quakeIII Arena Updates.exe
C:quake3/quake3.exe
C:quake3/readme 132.txt
C:quake3/uninstal5.log

C:quake3/baseq3 has 8 pak files(pak1.pk3 through pak8.pk3)
C:quake3/demo is empty
C:quake3/extras has CS file and anet.inf in the CS file
C:quake3/pointRelease has check for quake II arena updates.exe, quake3.exe, readme132.txt, and uninstal5.log files in it.
C:quake3/q3ce has baseq3 file with 3 dll files and q3config.cfg in it, pakconvert has the following exe files, 7za, basename, bash, convert, cp, cut, ffmpeg, grep, ls, mkdr, mv,rm,unzip, zip and the following DLL files cygiconv-2.dll, cygintl-1.dll,cygintl-2.dll, cygintl-3.dll,cygintl.dll,cygncurses-8.dll,cygpcre-0.dll,cygwin1.dll,cygpcre.dll, cygreadlines6.dll, mediainfo.dll, msvcr70.dll, pakconvert2.sh, and pakconvert.sh
q3ce also has: gx.dll, install.txt, and q3ce.exe

C:quake3/q3demo has 2 files baseq3 and extras, and quake3.exe, requirement.txt, and uninstal.log.
baseq3 has pak0.pk3 through pak8.pk3 in it.
extras has help file and 8 internet shortcuts.

Can someone tell me what up? cygdrive doesnt seem to be converting anything. What is the converted file I'm looking for??? What are my indications it worked correctly?
Thanks.
C:quake3/check for quakeIII Arena Updates.exe
C:quake3/quake3.exe
C:quake3/readme 132.txt
