I am dissapointed with Quake Mobile....

This game had so much potential, but its clearly obvious now that the on screen controls make the game completely unplayable.

Pocket Quake may have Software Rendering only Graphics but at least you can play the game reasonably well.

No stylus control, no optimization beyond level 1 (game slows to a halt in many places). Crappy tiny Soft Controls ruin a perfectly good game.

Anyone else have the same issues?

Anyone hear from Pulse Interactive Regarding the game or a new Patch to fix the above?

I e-mailed them and got the generic answer "we tested the controls with focus groups so it should work for you" ie - we dont want to listen to your input on how to make the game better.

Actually quake was designed so it COULD be played with a keyboard and not a mouse since many people were used to play like that since Wolfenstein and Doom. However sometimes you need to look up and down but it's rare. I'm through almost entire Quake Mobile and although a little bit frustrating is much more enjoyable than PocketQuake (plus I added some performance tweaks I found on the PocketQuake forums, yes they work some)

would you post these performance tweaks please?

I cant play Quake mobile really well. The damn soft keys get in the way :(

I really hope the Quake Mobile teams adds stylus contol, i mean come on, give us the option at least we can switch back and forth if we want.

Chin up lads! :) I had a chat with one of the guys behind Quake Mobile and they're making a patch soon to improve it! :approve:

Here's the email I got: (I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here)

Hi Dale,

Thank you for your email. It's customers like you, that give us feedback, we appreciate very much. All of your suggestions are good ones and they've already been sent to our development team. We are already working on touch screen support for a patch of the game.

We can look at implementing some of your other suggestions but what you (the consumer) need to keep in mind is that we have a budget for every game we make and we've already spent our budget to make the game you're playing today. If a lot of people buy the game then we'll have some money to implement some of the features you guys are asking for. Believe me, we would love nothing more than to rev. this product with all the features you guys want but another factor is that id has to approve every single thing we do to the game to make sure we uphold their brand so we can't keep making constant improvements to the game as much as the community would like. Dan's PocketQuake was never licensed or approved by id Software therefore he's allowed to give it away for free using the terms of the GPU (General Public Use License). Since we actually pay id Software, what they say....goes. Hence no NIN music in the game...

Again, thank you for the awesome feedback. And yes, we're members of Aximsite.com and read up from time to time.

Kind regards,
-Pulse Support
If we ENCOURAGE the developers, let them KNOW that we LOVE their game and REALLY want them to carry on supporting it, they will give us some cracking updates.

Get people you know to buy Quake Mobile and the devlopers will be motivated to improve their game! :approve:

I wonder though, even though they cant include NIN music in the game, could they add music support? I still love the game even as it is, there can be improvements, but I am not dissapointed in buying it.

It should be easy enough to add in MP3 support - it'd be nice to be able to at least rip the NIN music and put the files in with Quake.

There was a very nice PC Quake port I saw a while back, I wonder now - maybe it was FuhQuake? Think so. Anyway, it had a Winamp control in-game, so you could run Winamp in the background - having set up your playlist, you could then control it from within Quake's menus which was a nice little feature to have.

To be honest with you, I personally think their priorities are:
  • Speed increase - we need some serious optimisation to make it nice and smooth, not jerky and laggy! We KNOW our X50v's are capable of more than this, so let's hope they can tune it up some more! :)
  • Better controls - everyone wants stylus control at least, but we're getting that! :) They confirmed that they've already started work on that in the email I got from them.
  • Multiplayer - WiFi, Bluetooth - maybe even infra red for playing against (jealously drooling) friends with older PPCs running PocketQuake? :)

I described these in the email I sent them, along with other bits and pieces. They really seem to like hearing our comments, so let's give them some encouragement! :approve:

We really can't miss this chance to have a cracking 3D accellerated FPS game on our nice Axims. Heck knows, if we can help make it a success, maybe they'll be encouraged to go ahead and port some other Quake games - Quake 2 and 3 are there and ready for the taking - who knows? We really need more i2700G enabled games.

Don't be disappointed with your purchase, mate. :) Give them some encouragement to continue working.

Please keep working at it, Pulse Mobile! :approve:
