Sorry for my ignorance, but I have never had to install anything manually. What do you mean by "Execute the Microsoft VB runtime?" I downloaded that file (zipped), and I unzipped it. There were lots of files in there, but no executable. How do I execute it?
I also tried to copy (by dragging and dropping from within Windows Explorer) the Sudoku.vb file to both the Program Files section of my PDA and to the CF card, but it doesn't show up as being in either place. Is there a way I can use Active Sync to copy the file to the PDA? Thanks for the help.
Sorry for the incorrect info about MS eVB. I use PPC 2002, so the eVB runtime was already on my PPC. If you have PPC 2002, chances are the eVB runtime is already on yours as well.
I just went to the MS website and downloaded the VB Runtime to see what it looked like. It is a .CAB file called msvbppc.armv4.cab
To install a .CAB file, you typically just use ActiveSync's File Explorer to copy the .CAB file to your PPC. You can put the .CAB file anywhere. I usually just put it into my /TEMP folder. Then you can use any type of File Explorer on your PPC to tap on the .CAB file (which now resides on your PPC) to execute it, and it will then automatically install itself from the /TEMP (or whatever) folder to the correct locations on your PPC.
A .CAB file (short for cabinet) is a self-installing program which installs an application directly from your PPC.
To use ActiveSync's File Explorer, just click on the EXPLORE button on your ActiveSync desktop window. It will then bring up a File Explorer window.
The Soduko104.vb file just needs to be copied directly from your Desktop PC to your PPC. Personally, I created a new folder on my storage card called /Soduko Solver and copied the .vb file into that folder. You can use ActiveSync's File Explorer to copy from your PC to your PPC.
Next, you may want to create a shortcut to the .vb file, and place your shortcut in your /Windows/Start Menu/Games folder. You can use your PPC's File Explorer to create the shortcut.
RD 100, You always find cool free games! However, I got really hooked on the Resco version of Sudoku, and ended up buying it. I got it for $11.21 U.S. dollars at the Resco.net site. That was the best price I could find and I'm addicted! It looks great on my screen, and I like how it functions. Resco also boasts free upgrades for a lifetime. I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else (and it was almost impossible to find on Handango's site) and would never have found it if it weren't for those of you who posted here. Thanks! Resco Sudoku is definately my favorite version of this game. :approve:

Good luck! :)
It looks like I will need the luck! I downloaded that file from MS's web site. The file was named msvbppc.armv4, which was a zipped file. When I unzipped it, there were 37 files, but none was a .cab file. Did I download the right file from Microsoft? Am I supposed to just install the zipped file onto my Axim, or must I find the .cab file to install it? Thanks again for the help.

I'm not sure why you are getting a .zip file ? Please paste the link where you are downloading it from.
When you download from this site, you should be downloading a single .cab file called msvbppc.armv4.cab
That Microsoft site is the one I did go to. When I clicked on the file to download, it said the flie name was "msvbppc.armv4" (without the ".cab" extension.) I tried to rename the file and add the .cab extension before I downloaded it. After the download was complete, the file name still came up as msvbppc.armv4, without the .cab. I then renamed it on my hard drive, but it still came up as a .zip file when I looked for it with Windows Explorer. I copied it to my Axim, and the dialog box said it was converting it to PPC format and copying it over. I put it in my Temp folder as you suggested. When I tapped on it, I got a message saying, "Unsupported System Version. The program is not compatable with the current operating system, and, therefore, may not run on the device. Do you want to continue installation?" I exited out of the installation without continuing. Any ideas what my problem might be? I am running PPC version 2002 with ROM version A04.
I don't think that I have visual basic runtimes installed on the Axim, because when I try to run Sudoku Solver v. 1.04, I get a message saying "Application error. The control file 1 ({25C953B5-5464-11D1A714-00AA0044064C}) could not be created." I really don't know what to try next. Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have for me.
Another vote for Mastersoft's version - I like the many different type of hints and the ability to go back through my thinking until I find an error. All great stuff - for what its worth.
When you installed Sudoku Solver, did you respond Yes or No to the message which asked it if it should replace several .DLL files with older/newer versions? You should try installing first with "NO" to all, then if the game still doesnt work, try re-installing, and select YES to all. A SOFT RESET might also help.
Also, try the lastest V1.05 of the game, since it has a built-in install routine.

Thanks. I'll try to remove the eVB runtime files I transferred to my Temp file.
I have downloaded version 1.05. The file, as downloaded, was a .zip file. After I unzipped it, I ended up with four files:
a setup file (an application), a setup configuration settings file, and two other zipped files, called sudoku105.Am11004K]v3.00 and sudoku105.1486[4K]v3.00. Which of these files do I need to copy to my X5 to do the installation? Do I need to unzip it on my PC and copy all four of the files over, or can I just copy the original zipped file to the Axim and then tap on the filename while in File Explorer. Thanks again for the help. I'm a total noob when it comes to installing programs on the Axim.

After you've unzipped Sudoku on your PC, just click on the Setup.exe file on your PC, and it will install Sudoku to your PPC. Setup.exe will access the appropriate .CAB file from the unzipped Sudoku folder. The install process will ask you to install in Main Memory or Storage Card. Personally, I chose Storage Card. During the installation, it may also ask you to keep/overwrite several .DLL files. I elected to keep all of my current .DLL files, since mine were newer than the ones the game was trying to install, so I chose the option "No to All".

Thanks. That worked for me. I chose to install it onto the CF card, and I tapped "no to all" for the .dll options. The only thing I have to change is to make a shortcut to list Sudoku in my "Games" file. Right now, it is under Programs. I guess that's where the default installation put it. Thanks again for the help.
Hi. I was directed here by someone who downloaded my Sudoku Solver. Just to let you know that I've just released an updated version. It's changed quite a bit but the most notable additions are:
Full menu system
Wordoku option
Quick click input buttons
