hope someone can help.

recently received my new axim and am having no end of trouble with activesync...question is, the two games that i got with the pda on the companion CD, do i need activesynch to install these onto the axim or is there a different way of installing games from PC? If so, can you please explain

cheers

If you put the CD that came with the Axim into your drive, it will install ActiveSync 4, which is required.
After that is done, it will give you the choice of what you want to do.
Click the link that you want to install programs. You will then be given a list of programs. Check the boxes of the ones you want (Toy Golf and GeoRally are the two full version games, the others are demos).
Click next and it will walk you through installing the games.

Good luck and enjoy!

Can get activesync to work.....Dell are useless.

Guess my question could have been better phrased (can i download games from PC without active sync?) either way looks like i can't. Thanks for answer mate

On another note, just tried to download bomberman from net. File downloaded to PPC, but when i clicked on it, it said i do not have the corect application to run the program. Is there perhaps a PPC equivalent of winzip i need to be using??

Thanks in advance - as you can probably tell i a total newbie

What problems are you having with ActiveSync?

If you have the .cab file for a program, you can copy that to your PPC and run it from there to install.

You would want to make sure it isn't zipped and it is the .cab that is being copied to the PPC.

Doesn't look like Dell gives the .cabs for the programs on the CDs (at least the few folders I checked).

Some programs you get on a PPC site (hadango.com, pocketgear.com, etc) have a .cab version you can download instead of the desktop installer. Most programs only come with the installer so you need AciveSync.

Activesync problems??? What problems

Can't get a connection. Was on phone to dell all day. tried soft reset, hard reset, reinstalling outlook, reinstalling AS, removing MS Office and reinstalling outlook/AS. Making sure all firewalls are disbaled..you name it we tried it!!!

If you have any other suggestions i'm all ears. Next step i think is gonna be a total factory reset of my laptop (it could do with a bit of a spring clean!!). If that doesn't work, the axim get it ...or at least Dell get it back

One suggestion (since it is a laptop, though desktops can do this too) is to check the USB ports.
The laptop may turn them off to save power (even if plugged in to outlet, go figure).
If the PDA is connected when the computer turns on (from restart or start up) it may enable the USB port for you.

To have it always on:
1) Right click on My Computer
2) Select Properties
3) Click the Hardware tab
4) Click the Device Manager button
5) Click the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus controllers
>> Do the next steps for each USB Root Hub
6) Right click on a USB Root Hub
7) Choose properties
8) Click the Power Management tab
9) Uncheck the box that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
10) Click OK
11) Repeat for each USB Root Hub

I don't think it needs a restart after that, but if you (re)connect your PDA after that and it doesn't connect, try restarting.
Hope that helps.

Just saw this thread: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=101922

Thought I'd link that here in case you're still having problems and haven't seen that.
