Since your PDA doesn't support 3D hardware acceleration like the x50v and x51v's do, what would you be willing to give up?
1) Reduced frame rate.
2) Less textured surfaces in favor of flat shaded surfaces.
3) Less range of view. (less stuff being rendered)
4) Crummy texture rendering (nearest versus bilinear texture sampling)
If you had to give some things to get the frame rate back up on a software emulated version of a 3D game, would you be upset?

I honestly would not mind giving up lots of things. Hell, even an isometric view (Like the GBA ports) wouldn't be that bad. Just so long as it could be a good skateboarding game, I would be happy.
Take Quake III Arena, for example. I overclock my x30 and play it at around 4-7 fps, just to show it off to my friends. :D Hopefully, Noctemware will make even more "sacrifices" in the code for the WM2003SE QVGA user.
Bottom line, I, as well as many people here, would sacrifice quite a lot for some things on our PDAs. :)

I'd be guessing that THPS2 could be amended to work on any PDA. After all, Intel has this nifty 3D .dll you simply throw in the folder with the game. This .dll fools the 3D game into thinking it has all the 3D hardware, but it runs slower since it's all emulated in software. (The folks at Intel Rock!!!) Okay, it's not really that simple because the game as to be able detect and run with QVGA versus VGA.
However, running the game at full textures and range of view would probably result in 2-8 FPS. Wow, that's sort of nice for screenshots, it's not acceptable otherwise.
On the other hand, running the game with only the minimal set of textures and reducing the range of view would possibly result in a hardware accelerated FPS rates.
I'd further suspect that THPS2 could be amended to provide various levels of texturing and ranges of view. After all, some levels are larger than others. Also, even faster CPUs are coming out from venders.
We're still talking real 3D here. No isometric views. Honest!

Does anyone have a good coupon code for dell? Now that THPS2 is out, I would love to get it, but $29.99+ $8 shipping + tax is a bit steep for any game.

Does not appear so. Its shipped on a CD. I could justify the cost if it came on a memory card but $40+ for a ppc game, nope Ill pass.

No it means X50v and X51v will be the only pocket pcs that can play it.

I totally agree... I put it in my cart on the dell site, and realized they were charging me shipping, plus it said "ships in 1-2 weeks".
I was going to pay $30 for it, but I'm not willing to wait a few weeks for it, plus pay for shipping. This needs to be a download, possibly for less than $30, seeing they don't have to package and create the media.

It costs $41.12 with tax and shipping. I don't know when Aspyr plans on allowing other venders to sell THPS2. I bought a copy, but I have alterior motives.
With respect to the technical specifications, the game only consumes 28 megabytes of memory. Also, it only needs 128 megabytes of disk space during installation. After the game is installed, it uses under 64 megabytes of diskspace. Active Sync installers have this awful habit of copying their entire .cab files down to the destination and unpacking them in place. This effectively doubles the required amount of diskspace.

MAN, what is so hard about porting it to us poor unaccelerated users? GEEEEZ! Like, that would seriously sell! I'm very unhappy with a$$pyr
I'm sure it has something to do with the ease of the porting. It would be safe to assume that this is being ported from the Dreamcast version, which has very similar hardware to the x50v/x51v. Let's take a quick look at similarities:
Dreamcast Specs:- CPU - 206 Mhz. Hitachi SH4 CPU (Successor to the SH3 - found in several early pocketPCs)
- Memory - 16MB main RAM
- Graphics - NEC CLX2 PowerVR2
- Video RAM - 8 MB.
- Audio - Yamaha AICA 64 channel with 2 MB of RAM
- OS - Support for WindowsCE 2.01* with DirectX 6 extensions (DirectDraw, Direct3D Immediate Mode, Direct3D Retained Mode, DirectSound, DirectMusic, DirectInput, DirectPlay, DirectShow)
*WindowsCE was loaded off of the disc along with the game
x50v/x51v Specs:- CPU - 624 Mhz XScale
- Memory - 64 MB SDRAM
- Graphics - Intel 2700g (based on Imagination Technologies' PowerVR MBX
)
- Video RAM - 16 MB
- Audio - Wolfson WM8750 sound chip (admittedly, very different from what's in a dreamcast)
- OS - <x50v>WM2003SE (based on WindowsCE CE 4.21) or <x50v/x50v1>WM5 (based on WindowsCE CE 5.0) Windows Mobile 5 comes with a subset of DirectX 8.
In all reality, not that many games for the Dreamcast were designed with WindowsCE (Sega Rally 2 comes to mind). There are however, still many technical articles available on MSDN for Dreamcast development.
