It does annoy me a bit to see that they're so uninterested in making the game fast and smooth. Why waste time with expansion packs when the game isn't even very polished as it is?
For the price they charged us, we should be expecting more.
I've changed my attitude now, before I wanted to support this company and hoped they'd listen to our complaints and continue work. They don't seem to care. It's been a while since it first came out and we only just got stylus support. Where's multiplayer? Where's options to get rid of the onscreen buttons for those that dont use them? Where's the speed boost this game desperately needs? This is just lazy development.
Dan East's unaccelerated port runs faster than this at times.
Funny how the unpaid developer behind Quake 3 can manage to go from concept to working within a couple of weeks.

I have a feeling it took the quake 3 guy a lot longer than a couple of days. Most likely a few months...
I also hope that they work on the speed problems. They say it runs smoothly, and it does at most times, until you get a few monsters and a decent sized level. It's Quake 1 for cryin out loud... it ran flawlessly on a 266mhz Pentium without a graphics card... how about a 624mhz WITH 3d?

I could only get quake 3 to actually load and run after a hard reset and then ran way to slow to play... this may have some stutters but is definitely playable...

Yeah, I know. I was just kidding even though I said weeks. But still, Pulse - who are supposed to have a crack team of paid developers - took ages to give us something as simple as stylus controls, while the Quake 3 guy took only 2 weeks to completely convert all of Quake 3 to fixed point AND add i2700G support - that's a lot of work, and 2 weeks is a fantastic achievement if I'm not mistaken.

Well exactly. This just looks like lazy, sloppy programming. They seem to be just trying to make a fast buck rather than carefully tune it and deliver a polished product.
Pulse, you'll redeem yourself in my eyes if you can give us the ultimate update which will make this game a pleasure to play. Make it more of an action game than a slideshow. Like biohzrd, I'm holding a 624MHz PDA with 3D acceleration in my hand, and the game still plays faster and smoother on my Pentium 100.
It'd be nice if you came here and responded to our concerns too, rather than just advertise your new expansion packs for an unfinished game... Won't you even tell us if you plan to carry on supporting it?
/me jumps off the soapbox, sits in a corner and continues to mutter.

This patch makes the games so much more fun, this is one of the best 2700G accelerated games available!

I'd say it was in the way you advertised it!
It truly made me feel like this was included in the original purchase, and did promote me to buy as it seemed to have some decent replayability etc. Here's the advert, and I still feel its misleading!
"Coming soon: Multiplayer Gaming. Play against your friends over Bluetooth or local wireless connections (Wifi) Quake Mobile Expansion packs. Both original PC expansion packs will be available for download before long!"
I see nothing that states they will be available to "purchase" soon, nope, they will be available to download soon... Wheres my download link?
Using "Coming soon" inside a feature list for a game, leads one to believe that these are features that are part of the advertised game still in development!
Clever advertising as I'm sure it increased your sales a bit!

I agree, it was the way it was advertised...
i thought the packs were going to be part of the game update (not that much of a leap when you consider that you are paying 25 bucks for a Pocket PC Game)
Let me guess, multiplayer is going to be an expansion pack for 14.95 too now?
jeez :realmad:

hmm
Just a hunch but as almost all you can see on any main website covering quake or gaming in genreal. PPC's are still hidden from the public as sweet ass gaming machines since the PSP is out and all the gameboys. The reason this game probably is just given to us ahead of time all buggy and all is because its built for CELL PHONES! its supposed to run on the 3D phones that arent even out yet, they probably dont care to completely fix it for us because were not where the money is at. Its all the peeps getting the fancy new phone that can do anything but keep a decient call lol.
If this game does patch up nice later on ill buy it but just like my PC games I have to pick carefully and Quake Mobile isnt a replacement for Pocket Quake for me just yet.

I just bought a Sanyo mm-7500. And just heard of Quake Mobile. Will I be able to play it on my new phone? I hope so. Anyone know?

No, it won't. Quake Mobile is currently only for the Axim X50v/X51v Windows Mobile Pocket PCs. Don't expect your average java/camera cellphone to be able to run stuff like this... this is a full 3D accelerated high-resolution game - made specifically for Windows Mobile to start with - and it's STILL slow on our top of the line Pocket PCs...
Mind you, the company's horrific advertising strategies would lead you to believe the version out now is for cellphones. Their site should have pictures of X50v's and bold text reminding you of this plastered all over.
Pulse is a bit of a fraud if you ask me. Oh, and did you know that the REAL developers behind Quake Mobile are actually called Bear Naked Productions? ( http://www.bnpgames.com/) They've sold themselves as slaves to Pulse!

just wanted to add, the two add-on packs far exceed the original game in content, I still have all my original disks, and magazine reviews, maybe it was advertised wrong, but if you go for the combo pack at handango that is a very good deal, from a play perspective the add-ons are worth more than the original.
...assuming I have quake for PPC installed, can I just copy the PAK files for the add-ons over to the PPC and it should work? Anyone know if this is possible? That's how it went for the linux ports.
I used to play Quake1 on a Pentium 100 in 320 software rendering and it was fast.
I still keep an old PPro 180 with Win98 and a Voodoo PCI card just for my 1st gen quake games, as I haven't been able to get them to run without bugs on newer hardware with OpenGL.
