AOE PPC...What am I doing wrong?

Alright, did the research, can't find anything, here or google.

In AOE PPC Gold:

1. How do you build a gate in your wall?
2. How do you get your men to go around stuff?

In the PC version, neither of these is a problem. In the PPC, though, I can't find the gate, so I have to destroy the wall when I go on the rampage.

Plus, I can't send units, say ships, to the other side of the map without them "getting stuck" by something.

I assume these are limitations, instead of user error. But I hope it's user error.

Thanks.

I haven't played the PPC version in awhile, but I don't recall being able to build gates.

There aren't any gates in AOE 1/Gold Edition. Not on PPC, not on PC version :).
