Mark,

The files you want to back up are .NAM and .SAV files in the Everquest directory.

After your hard reset you will need to reinstall the game and start a new character once it is reinstalled (if you have more than one character create new characters for each old character you had).

Close out of the game, copy your .nam and .sav files back to the original directory (say yes to the prompts to overwrite the new characters). Once this is done you can start the game and go back in with your old character (the first time you do this the level and location may be wrong on the character selection screen, this will fix itself once you play your old character again).

The reason for all this is that when you create a character, the information for the file location, level and zone is written to the registry. The game will not pick up a .sav or .nam file unless it is already in the registry so you have to create new characters after a reinstall and copy over.

Whatever you do though, make sure you keep the backup copy of your old character files until you have everything back. (COPY don't MOVE)

Hope this helps...
