Want text based RPG

Remember the old text based Pirate Adventure game and all those text based Infocom games? I remember playing them on a TI99/4a long ago, loaded from a casset player! LOL.
I was wondering if anyone made those for pocket pc? Perhaps it wouldn't be as fun as I remember. Perhaps you can never go back. Still, it might be fun to see if they can still hold their own. Oh, and it should be freeware.

Thanks for any info......

P.S. I'm looking at nethack, but not sure its the same thing.

I had no idea there were so many. I guess I looked for the wrong words and gave up too easily. I'll check all those out. Thanks!

Do you have a keyboard though? I think it would be kinda awkward without one...

Also give a try to the Legend Entertainment games under PocketDOS if you have a VGA device. See http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13745 for more info.

nethack

Nethack is a great low graphics but amazingly deep RPG. It it very old by game standards. It IS the reason I went with a Pocket PC based PDA (Axim x50v)... not the only reason but one of them!

Mainsite - http://www.nethack.org
Download - http://www.nethack.org/v343/ports/do...wince.html#ppc

Enjoy I hope :)

Take a look to my links for emulators/interpreters

You will find some interpreters for Zork/Infocom/Hugo/TADS/Level9/Magnetic Scrolls games.

Scott Adams who wrote that Pirate adventure has made them available for free to other platforms. PPC is not one of them but you can play the web versions.

The old Infocom games was great, and it is possible to play them on your PocketPC.

The Infocom games - you can find them on the net (Bittorrent) - is in a fileformat called Z. It is a bytecode program, for which you need an interperter.

Try looking at these links:
http://www.latz.org/infocom/
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/pressrele...01/frotzce.htm

It is also posible to write games yuorself, using the free Inform tool, see here:
http://www.inform-fiction.org/

Good luck with the project.

Guys and gals, don’t forget to check out my brand new, MS-DOS / x86 emulation-related article at http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=153194

(Sorry for flooding – IMHO, this article certainly deserves attention because it answers ALL the questions a Windows Mobile user may want to EVER ask about emulating MS-DOS. Make sure you read it!)
