It'd be neat if he would use an open source forum like sourceforge, so others could help.

Believe me, porting stuff from one platform to another, especially when the sourceplatform is quirky old DOS, is quite hard and time consuming.

I know that, but there are tons of Windows ports that are up and running. IMO this shouldn't be as hard as he is making it out to be....

The resoan why the Windows ports are up and running so fast is that alot of the DOS stuff (such as the x86 assembler code, and sound blaster calls) still works. They had a windows portout in a few days of the source release.

Though, other programmers have made a SDL version that works on Mac OS X, so obviously not insurmountable problems.

Edit: hold it, I think I'm thinking of Rise of Triad, which had a source release around the same time. Hmm... can't find a release of Duke3D for a non x86 platform right now, but there is a linux/SDL version.

Add to that, that the game is designed for a 4:3 display, and PPCs use a 3:4 style display, so scaling or rotating has to implemented (unless you want to play with only half the screen showing).

Curious, you done any porting cageyjames?

From windows to PPC, not DOS to PPC... And not a game...

I understand your points, believe me, but the answers this guy is giving don't add up IMO.
