infocom games
I hope someone can help me. I've tried to get Infocom games to play on my Axim. I've used Pocket frotz and Zip CE. I don't have any trouble loading the emulators or the games- I've tried Zork I and Beyond Zork- but when I try to open the game I get a message saying "wrong game or version".
Does anyone have an idea what's going on?

The emulater must not support that game.

which game is it that you're having trouble with?
To your knowledge is it one of the ones with graphics?

Actually, I was trying to load an .exe file. Once someone pointed out that I needed to load the data file, it worked just fine. Thanks for the pointers.

How well does PocketFrotz work? I have been using the demo of PocketDOS to run the Zork text adventures and hate the delay they built in to it.

For VGA devices, the only decent looking one is pocketfrotz 0.4b from here. ZipCE works and (I think) has better compatibility, but you are forced to use pixel doubling on the text which is Ugly with a capital U. Sadly the email link for the ZipCE author doesn't seem to work anymore so chances of newer VGA-friendly versions are probably unlikely.

I'm trying to run PocketFrotz 0.4b, but whenever I choose File->Open Story File it locks up my device. Has anyone had any luck getting this to run on an X50v?
Thanks,
Josh
Edit: It was working all along, I just wasn't being patient enough. It's taking about 15 seconds to load the file list, and it locks up the screen while it's loading.

If you are using a Pocket PC 2003 device, I use Frostz, notice the difference in spelling it is a redesign of the popular Frotz program, and is available from the link below. It has some of the greatest support for text games, supports Beyond Zork completely, and yes, I have to say, I like it better than Zip CE right now.
You can get it HERE.

Thanks for the info - I'll give Frostz a try! By the way, what's the purpose of the compass? It doesn't seem like it ever changes.

The compass is to help you move. Click on the direction. It is not a reference of what direction you are, just which direction you want to go.

I've mainly used ZipCE (especially with my h1930) with very nice results. Make sure you're trying to load the data file (probably with a *.z* extension), and not the exe file, as that won't work at all.
