Hey I am a new Axim owner and a road warrior that hates to boot up the laptop on the plane. My favorite game of all time was Zork and I would like to conquer it again while listening to my MP3s at 30,000 ft. Anybody know where I can find it? I found an emulator for Infocom but don't know how to use emulators so any advice for emulators would be welcome as well!

By the way, ordered my Dell on 12/19, received it on 1/2. Ordered WriteShield screen protectors on 1/6 and they are back ordered until 1/17. Dell must be selling a lot of machines to swamp PCTechs!!

Zork was such a cool game! You'll have to let me know if you ever find it.

Sure will......also remember it being very small in file size so if it is available it shouldn't take up much memory.......the first game I ever played that had zero graphics, only text and kept me at my computer during lunch time for three solid weeks. It really makes the brain cells work especially when you haven't saved the last move before moving into that unknown room.."You Died".....

It is only compatible with the text based games, though.

I have FrotzCE on my Axim 400. It works very well. I agree that the Infocom adventures are some of the best around! :D

If you like games like that, that are mostly text and story driven, you might like fade:

'

"Fade is a new graphical adventure game for PocketPC, in the same vein as the great classics, such as Maupiti Island or Black Sect. The adventure’s setting is both realistic and contemporary, brought to life through the use of entirely computer-generated, 65000-colour images. As the player, you will find yourself moving around a variety of locations, realised through over 450 images which serve to illustrate a gripping adult adventure, as well as allowing you the opportunity to meet and converse with dozens of characters. - 65000 colors - More than 450 in-game screens - Dozens of characters - Sound environment that create an unique feeling - Over 15 hours of intense gaming - Intuitive inventory system and user interface - A twisted and fascinating story - A lot of puzzles to solve "

You mentioned Emulators, so you might have stumbled onto this:

Here is an address to a DOS emulator:

http://www.pocketdos.com/

You might be able to run Zork in it.

I'm going to give it a try for my old passion; the "Qwest for Glory" series by Sierra.

I've downloaded the games, I just need to try the emulator.

I never played Zork, but Adventure (another text based game) was very fun on my old Apple IIc (which still works perfectly by the way, around 20 years old).

KC

If you tried to DOS emulator, let me know your results.

Thanks

I loved the Quest for Glory series, but I got sooo frustrated. LOL The only Zork game that I tried was the Return to Zork game. :D I guess I'm just too young. LOL

How are emulators used? Do you load them on the PDA using Active Sync? Where do the game files go? Can the game files be run from CF slot?

Any help is greatly appreciated.......I looked up FADE and it looks like one I am going to buy but it does eat up the memory. I'll load it on CF and play from there. : :D :D

Questions! Qestions! Questions!!! :-)

OK, It all depends on the emulator, but with YAMEce (which is an NES. GB emulator) I just copied the executable to anywhere on the Axim and the same thing with the ROMS.

Most emulators probably work this way, so copying them to a card with the ROMs is no problem.

Some probably use installers, but you should still be able to redirect the destination with those...

I haven't tried PocketDOS or FrotzCE yet..
