Icon14 Freeware: XWords (Scrabble-like game) for PPC

XWords is a fantastic Scrabble-like game for Pocket PC !

And best of all ... it's FREE !!!

I created a thread about this game a year ago, when the program was still being developed. I was using it on a PPC2002 device, and it worked great for me, but other people were having issues running it on WM2003 and newer devices.

Eric House, the developer of XWords (aka Crosswords), has recently upgraded it within the past month, so it now works in WM5 and VGA devices.

The current release is 4.1 Beta 9.

You can download dictionaries to use with XWords here.

Eric House (the developer) has been participating in another XWords thread at Brighthand.com.

One of the things I like best about this game, is you can select from different dictionaries based on your vocabulary level. The College level dictionaries are huge, so unless you are an English guru, you'll have a tough time competing with the computer at that level. The Basic Dictionary (2 to 8 letters) is what I generally play, and I feel I'm evenly matched against the computer at that level.

XWords has become one of my all-time favorite PPC games !!!

I wasn't even a big fan of Scrabble or word games, but once I tried XWords, I was hooked!

Highly recommeded!

I'll try the new version. The usually crashes on exit on my x30 but it doesnt deter me from playing. Just wish I could specify the location of the dictionary. As it is I have the game installed on SD but the dictionary on the Ax.

Edit: I just read the mentioned thread and the SD card issue seems to have been addressed.
