Has anyone had problems playing Quartz on x51v? I purchased it a few days ago when I had the A12 ROM installed, but I had to get a replacement due to a problem with A12. Now I have A06 and the game won't work. Just a few minutes into it and it throws me back to the today screen and then the whole screen freezes and I have to soft reset.

Arrrrggg… it seems like this machine has taken over my life with one problem after another since I bought it less than 3 months ago.

 

You might try asking the question over at clickgamer. I have the earlier free version that was going around at Christmas and it worked on my wm2003se ax and seems to work fine on my x51v, a12 ax now. haven't had any freezes that I know of.

I think it might have been the today screen timeout setting. I turned that off and managed to get through a whole game! Time will tell...

Well, it wasn't the today screen timeout setting like I thought. It went back to freezing less than three moves in every time I tried to play. I decided to see if it worked after a hard reset with nothing else installed. Made a backup and did HR. Same problem.

Then a strange thing happened… I tried to restore my backup and it would get as far as 5% and stall there. (This was with the Dell backup tool, BTW.) I tried this about 5 times. If I did a soft reset after it got stuck at 5% it would get to the today screen but there would only be 2 entries under the start menu and in programs. The only thing I could do at this point was another HR. Then, I figured it was a long shot but I decided to try copying the backup file from the SD card to the CF card. Once I did that the backup completed without an issue. Is that weird or what?

Anyway, then I discovered I still had the A06 ROM update installer saved on my computer. So a made a couple more backups to be safe, reinstalled A06 and tested Quartz… no freeze! Then I restored my backup and everything seems to be working now.

Must have been some glitch or incompleteness in the factory installation of the ROM. Doesn't give me a lot of confidence in Dell's QA, but I hope this is the last of my Axim drama for a while!
