It was recently that
HeroCraft HiTec released
Arcade Park (
my review here; note that opinions certainly differ on Arcade Park. For example,
Eric Pankoke certainly
disliked it. Allen's review is
here. All the three of us agree that the inability to reassign the Action (fire) button is a definite problem with the game.)
The game is almost exactly the same as
Arcade Park with the exception that only three of the mini-games are still here: the
Breakout clone
Arcade Ball as
Bikini Balls; the
Galaxians clone
Galaxy Invaders as
Sweet Galaxy and the
Asteroids clone
Asteroids as
Erotic Galaxy. Also, there is a new menu item
Gallery, which, at first only shows one image (later in the game, depending on your score, it may show more - I don't know).
The in-game music and the control system (which, unfortunately, hasn't been improved) are exactly the same. The latter means you must still use the Action and/or double-taps to fire. This is pretty OK with me (I mostly use the stylus to control my sprite and not the D-pad), but not necessarily with you.
Availability
It's available
here and costs $14.95. As with earlier
HeroCraft HiTec titles, all WM2003+ Windows Mobile versions are supported. The title also sports Palm OS (preferable for less-pixelizated graphics if you have a HiRes(+) Palm device) and Symbian versions.
Verdict
While (as opposed to some other people) I was pretty happy with
Arcade Park (it offers a lot of fun and several minigames for $10 only - compare this to the technically much more inferior (for example, it has absolutely no in-game music), official
Namco ports (for example,
Galaxian), which sell for as high as $14.99 a
single title),
I can NOT recommend the new title. It's not only $5 more, but also five games less.
Arcade Park (if the control scheme is OK with you - again, it's working OK with me, but your mileage may vary) is a much better buy.
