220$ or 110 pounds for a USB host and a gamepad sounds alittle outrageous. Just curious, why not a BT one?

One word: drivers. You'd need drivers for any gamepad, and seeing as how the X51V doesn't run Windows but rather Windows Mobile, I would wish you luck in getting gamepads to work. Besides, isn't less wires more fun? I a bluetooth controller and personally love it.
Palm m130->Pa1m0ne Tungsten | E->Dell Axim x30 High...But now, a glorious Dell Axim x51v + 1GB Sd Card and a 2GB 80x CF Card!!!

The list of tested devices doesn't includ your gamepad.

It might work, but it would be a risk. I would go for something that's guaranteed.

You could easily get a Bluetooth pad and 2 batteries extra for the price of a USB cf card and game pad, and the time it takes to write or modify existing drivers.
