Anybody have this game for pocket pc, is it good???

There are many free portations of quake (which need the original files from the commercial game) as well as a commercial one. So which one do you mean?

Anyway, I like the commercial version for the 2700g devices although some said it lags sometimes but I can not confirm this.
It looks good and plays better but I also have to say that I never got any of the free portations to work so I can not compare them very well.
The game has Onscreen-Buttons and is displayed in left-handed landscape mode, which is different to the others but I guess it looks best this way.

Most important thing might be that it has no multiplayer-mode although the console and all other features work. Some also weren't amused that the addons are not for free.

When it came out, I wrote a guide to tweak it so you can use "strafe", too cause this was missing in the version as well as displaying the crosshair.

However, i can repeat it here:

(Cheats ahead!)

Copy the config.cfg under /id1 to your PC and open it with a tet-editor

The system is easy, e.g. to bind the god-mode to the silver-(onscreen)button:
you see
bind "SILVER"
where you add
"god"

so it looks like this:
bind "SILVER" "god"

Other cheats:
"impulse 9" - all weapons and stuff
"notarget" - enemies do not attack you
"fly" - ...
"noclip" - ghost mode (not tested, though)
"impulse 255" - Quade Damage Mode (or "rimpulse -1")
"impulse 11" - one more rune

etc.

To map more cheats to one button, use ";" between the words.

Other hints:
To activate the crosshair, add this to the end:
crosshair "1"

If you have a keyboard, you can e.g. map:

bind "ORANGE" "toggleconsole"

and then just write in the codes.


To browse the levels, you can use this:

bind "AUX5" "menu_multiplayer"


My config (for best movement)

bind "AUX3" "impulse 10" (change weapon)
bind "AUX4" "+movedown"
bind "RED" "+attack"
bind "GREEN" "+klook" (free look with d-pad)
bind "BLUE" "+strafe"
(changes the d-pad "look right" to "strafe right" when pressed once and can be deactivated when pressed again)
bind "GOLD" "+jump"

Hint: there is still the Nightmare-Mode available (e.g. with "skill 3")

I use PocketQuake which is free. You have to have a launcher to make it run on the VGA x51v. The VGA launcher is found off the same site. It works pretty good and it has multiplayer support.

All the addon's are free too as you just need to copy the wad files over. It doesn't take advantage of the 2700 Graphics specifically to axims, so it doesn't look quite so good as the Quake Mobile mentioned earlier.

In a perfect world where everything was free... I think I would pick Quake Mobile because of its 2700 graphic accerleration. BUT because its not a perfect world, and quake will run either way, because of this I have PocketQuake because its free and has internet play.

Maybe that causes the white screen? I already tried "White Screen fix" and other releases and also GAPI Tweak but he either just doesn't show anything or an error message although I did everything correct witht the files.

QuakeMobile is great. Not free, but great great great on the x51v.

Important safety tip: Don't cross the streams.

I still have no idea how player got PocketQuake to work, I haven't found any VGA loader or something.
