what is an emulator?

i hav been seeing A LOTTTT of threads about emulatos.. what are they?

Simple answer, its a program that fools the software of another OS into thinking its running on that product. IE you can run Apple ][ software on an Axim even though that software doesn't work with Pocket PC or XScale. The drawbacks are speed and the fact not all games will work with the emulator because some games don't adhear to the "correct" way of working. A good example was EA early in the Sega Genesis platform. They figured out a way to work around Sega's system to get their games working....

Emulators are programs that emulate the CPU on another platform. Nintendo and other gaming platforms are the most common and popular type of emulators. you can run ROM's (copies of game cartridges' data) with the appropriate emulator, in order to play original Nintendo and other systems' games.

Oh one more note.... Most of the ROMs you see out there are copyrighted so you can't trade them or download them. You can make copies of software you own...

And posting info about ROMs at Aximsite.com is totally against our user agreement....

so.. say if i hav nintendo or other games...
how would it play them on my axim.. is the emulator the only thing i would need? ... and how do i do it?

There is absolutely no way you could download the ROMs into files, since you seem to have no idea even what an emulator is......;)

Your best best is to find a site that has the ROMs that you own.....get the emulator for your console, and you're good to go

This is starting to get into a grey area now. We don't allow people linking to ROMs on our site per the rules of the Games forum. I think at this point a search on Google might be a good idea. :D

Thanks, the way this works is you can talk all you want about emulators, but we don't allow talk about ROMs. Emulators are legal, trading ROMs is not and we don't want to get pulled down there.

So basically ask away on emulators, we have many people here who know tons about them. Just don't ask where to get ROMs... :D

Its confusing, but we have to protect ourselves.
