Astraware celebrates 10th Anniversary of Broken Sword series
Astraware is having a 10th anniversary bash for the Broken Sword series - and you get the gift. Please note that this offer is only good from Friday, September 29, 2006 through Sunday, October 1, 2006. Check it out!
THE MIDLANDS, UK - September 28th, 2006 - Astraware and Revolution Software are excited to announce a special Broken Sword promotion to celebrate 10 years since the release of the original Broken Sword.
When the game was originally released on 30th September 1996, no-one could have forseen that the game would still be receiving rave reviews a full decade later. 'Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars' has been released on several platforms including PC, PlayStation(R), GameBoy Advance(R), and most recently for Palm OS(R) and Windows Mobile(R). Broken Sword is now an award-winning franchise with three sequels. The most recent, 'Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death', has just been released and is currently number 1 in the charts.
"We always dreamed of writing the game on a device that would reach beyond hardcore gamers; with the emphasis on intelligent, cerebral gameplay, rather than the requirement for manual dexterity, the game was always intended to have a broad appeal. Writing the game on Palm OS(R)and Windows Mobile(R) platforms has finally allowed us to achieve this goal", said Charles Cecil, Managing Director and co-founder of Revolution Software.
"We are really proud of how the game has turned out on Palm OS(R) and Windows Mobile(R).", said Tony Warriner, co-founder of Revolution Software, "The PC version was praised for its beauty and subtlety, and this has translated perfectly".
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the release of 'Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars', Astraware is making the game available at a very special discount price. From Friday 29th September to Sunday 1st October 2006 ONLY, 'Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars' for Palm OS(R) and Windows Mobile(R) for Pocket PC will be available with an Anniversary-only discount. This offer is available from the Astraware website for this limited period only. Visit the site at http://www.astraware.com/promo/brokensword1 for more details.

Link doesn't work, but if you go to the main page, and click broken sword, the prices now are $14.95 (regular was $29.95)...
I suppose those are the anniversary prices for all OS.

Is this game appropriate for kids? for what ages would you recommend it?
It is a little involved... so maybe small children wouldn't appreciate it.. but teens and above should like it.
If you've never played it before this is a wonderful game... I played it about 9.5 years ago.. MrsPsionandy played it for the first time last year (on the PC)... we both loved it

Hmmmm. I'm intriqued. Is this game worth $14.95, or will I be done with it in a week??

Bump. Still haven't gotten my question answered. I never looked at this game when it was $30, because that is a lot of money for a game. But $14.95 is reasonable. Is this worth it? I don't have time to demo it, so I am relying on you guys. Should I splurge and spend the 14.95 on this one??

Hmmm. That is a resounding support. Thanks, PsionAndy. I hate paying money for things I don't have a chance to demo first, but this may be worth the risk for a splurge.

OK. I decided it was worth the $15 to check it out. :) It looks like a very cool game.

I agree that this is a good game but if you have ever had any dealings with them you know that their customer support really stinks it up. $15 is a good price for this game. But you really need to ask yourself how much time it can be worth to you. If you are willing to spend an hour more trying to get help, then go for it. If time is more important than money, I would avoid this company.

Given that I've never had a problem with their support people, or needed to get support for a game, I can't say much about this issue. All I know is that their games work, get updated now and again as bugfixes or improvements come along, and I don't have any trouble getting their software to work.
Besides that, where else are you going to get a VGA-native version of Broken Sword, at least legally? Even SCUMMVM doesn't run it at 640x480 natively, IIRC.
