Anyone Remember Chex Quest???

If you are a teen (Like me) or an adult that has children, you might remember this game that came out in chex cerial boxes in 1996. It was called Chex Quest, and was a doom clone that delt with zapping slime monsters back to where they came from, 100% blood and gore free! I never got this game working until a few years ago on my old IBM Eduquest machine, and while it may sound stupid, it is actually still fun to play! Yesterday, I found out how to get this game running on an Axim.

First, go to http://home.freeuk.com/gamefreaks/pql/gfDoom.htm and download gfdoom (arm version at the bottom).

Next, go to google and search for a download of Chex Quest. (Im not sure if I am allowed to post a link by forum rules....)

Then, when you unzip the Chex Quest file, you will see a file with a .wad extention. Make a copy of it, and rename the copy DOOM.wad.

Finally, Unzip the gfdoom file to a place on your computer, paste your new DOOM.wad into that directory, and then copy/paste the entire directory to somewhere in your handheld.

To run it, load gfDoom launcher (the one with a blue icon), select DOOM.wad, change any other settings you want, and click "Launch gfDOOM". Note: Leave the PWAD space blank.

This works most of the time, and proves that I have WAY too much free time in the summer.

Never played the game. But sounds like you found a pretty good fix for it. Good job.

Chex Quest

I've never played it but I do have this game. Didn't know it was a doom clone or I would probably have tried it!

Would it be against forum rules to post a link to the game to download it?

I'll ask the site admin about it, and let you know.

Chex Quest was developed by an ex-company known as Digital Cafe. One of the two founders, Mike Koenigs, has a new company website that has a page regarding Digital Cafe and Chex Quest. Here is the link: Click Here for Link.

On that page, you can find a link to a "Contact Mike" form. If you wish to distribute this game in any way, I would suggest contacting Mike Koenigs and see if he agrees to this. Even though the company isn't around anymore, the copyright still holds on the game. Never hurts to ask.

p.s. I just noticed that on the contact form, there is also an 800-number that you can use to reach Mike.

I meant post a link to a website, not owned by me, that has the game for download. I won't be distributing it, i'll just be sending readers to a place thats distributes it. I wasn't sure if this interfered with the "No Rom Posting" rule, even though its not a rom.

Chex Quest uses the same engine as doom, but was released as a stand-alone game, so i don't think you would even need the original doom.wad to obtain a copy.

If you select a level higher than 4 or 5 (I Think) on gfdoom launcher's level select, It will show levels that weren't actually in the game! Some look wierd though.....

Well, the admin said he would prefer not to have that posted, just in case. Thanks.

You are quite welcome. Sorry it took so long, but I was in Atlanta. And thank you for asking before posting.
