Thanks a lot. I also read that you can use programs like Nero to extract psx isos. I tried this with my copy of FF vii but when i tried to load the rom on the emu the game opened and then quickly closed back to the home page of the program. Am i doing something wrong?

I was having the same problem as ea6b607, I tried to use Nero to copy my FFVII cd to an image for the emulator and found that didn't work so I spent a good evening trying to find a free program to create a .iso or .bin/cue file.

Long story short, the demo of CDRWin did the job and I now have FFVII on my X51v! Only issue seems to be dodgy sound, though I don't know if it is the sound system in the emulator or the slightly odd midi-style music in FFVII.

Great on the part of the authors, I'll have to find a way to thank them for their work.

Donating some money to the page is the only "thanks" that can be more than just the usual text "ZOMG WTF THANK YA!!"

^^
yes again, .NRG still makes problems and yes again, MIDI and audio suck as the current Plugin is optimized for best speed as this is most important for now.

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was moaning about the sound, I honestly wasn't meaning to be ungrateful. I am genuinely happy that I can play the games on my X51 and, while sound is a "would be nice" thing, the fact that I can play them in the first place is great. And the same with the .nrg, it would be nice but I know that to implement reading in another format can be a P.I.T.A. and there are much more important things going on and so I am happy to find a ripping program that supports the same format.

I am hopefully going to donate soon, as it is a great program, but it is likely to only be around £10 as that is all I can afford. Not much for all their work, I know....

Just a quick question about donation, where does the money go to? Is it straight to the developers or through someone else who maintains the site? The donation form says "s h t r u c k [ a t ] f r e e . f r" . . .

Ah well, I just cut short about sound etc. as it was discussed pretty often now ;)
And we have 3 new none-public betas trying to fix .NRG with no good result, it's pretty ugly, yeah.
Every amount of money is used to keep the machine running.
However, I would suggest to donate here:

https://www.paypal.com/xclick/busine...rency_code=USD

As this money will be used to keep the site and service running and get some money for a newer device for one of the two coders. Schtruck already got his new toy, a x51v while LDChen still scratches around on his pretty old PDA.

Just a suggestion though, feel free to donate to whom you want.
Currently, we have some trouble with the forum as our bandwidth had some none-standard increases... not good.

All I can really say is how I did it.

I downloaded a copy of CDRWin, the demo is fine for ripping cds...http://www.goldenhawk.com/download.htm

After installing run it and select Extract Disc (picture of CD going to beige hard drive box) and you'll get a warning about the demo being limited to 1X which you can ignore. Make sure it says "Disc Image/Cue Sheet" for extract type then select the "..." box next to the Image filename box to set where to extract the image.

After that just select "START" and it should extract the full image for you.

I've tried using PocketISO from that site to make the images smaller but when I tried to use it to rip out the videos the game would not work at all, the best it could do was to compress the image to about 550megs.

Oh, when extracting, make sure it has detected that the disc is "Mode 2" or "CDROM-XA" (depends on your version of CDRWin).

It says at the start of this thread "now, with (in Portrait mode only) VGA & some 2700G (Linear Frame Buffering to decrease the CPU load) support!".

I'm a little bit confused by that. Why is VGA/2700G only supported in portrait mode? I don't plan on using the on screen buttons with this emulator (I've always seen this kind of interface as unusable for gaming). So I'd really like to have full screen landscape so I can play the emulator with a bluetooth controller.

In QVGA Portrait we have to draw every frame with 86400 bytes
in VGA Portrait those are 345600 bytes which represent a factor of 4...

in VGA landscape it would be 640x480=614400 byte so a factor of ~7/8...

too much, you can not reach a playable framerate at all and there is no other way to do it for now.

The 2700g support in QVGA is not limited to the Portrait mode.
