No clue... but could the iPaqs have a better grafx chip?

Cheers.

It was in a Brighthand thread around 6/24 that new owners were reporting high fps & sound with PocketSNES on the HP 2210. I found it through a link on PocketPCThoughts.com. Search PPCT's Archives from 6/23 to 6/26 if you want to find the thread. (Sorry, I'm posting from my Ax or I'd look it up for ya. ;) )

Here's a thread at brighthand with ipaq 2215 users reporting great fps with pocketsnes

http://discussion.brighthand.com/sho...threadid=81209

also, the 2215 is different from the axim from a hardware perspective in the sense that the 2215 has a different graphics coprocessor..........i don't recall the name of it, that plus ppc2003 may account for the better performance............i sure hope the majority of the performance boost comes from ppc2003 and not the graphics chip that the 2215 has...............otherwise, i might consider switching.............

though i love my axim, if it cant get at least playable frame rates on snes while the 2215 can for the same price (student discount), plus all its other advantages, i may just have to switch. I dont want to though..... i really hope that ppc2003 is at least the bulk of the improvement.

i have a question. is the graphic processor in the 2210 different then that in the higher end (5455, etc.) ipaqs? The axim doesnt run much slower then those based on the benchmarks ive seen.

Since WM2003 lets you compile stuff for X-Scale now, there will probably be an 'optimised for X-Scale' build of PocketSNES9x (like PocketSNES9x Bleeding Edge now), and you can bet MorphGear won't let the opertunity to make a faster version pass them by.

There's already a ppc 2003 build of morph gear. Can't wait to see how it performs!

Anyone have an axim 400 with ppc 2003 yet? I'd like to hear what the resuslts are so far...

IPAQ Graphics Chip

If I'm not mistaken, the IPAQ 2210 and the Toshiba e750 are both using the ATI IMAGEON 3200 graphics chip. But apparently this chip is causing more trouble than it is good. Something about the memory speed, but it's only got something liek 350kb of dedicated vram anyway. From all the results I've seen over at PocketMatrix.com forums, people are getting quite a boost on almost all PPC 2003 devices in SNES emulators and even upwards of 20 fps in Pocket Quake :)

On a side note, does anyone know how well Jimmysoftware's Doom runs on the Axim Basic? Also, does Age of Empires play well on the 300Mhz processor.

My first post, I look forward to being a member of this forum, seems like a friendly place :)

It runs fairly well, though I prefer GF Doom over it (GF Doom is harder to setup, but lets run Doom full screen, sideways, on the Axim)

Just tried it on PPC2003 and a 400mhz Axim. Played F-Zero at between 25-30 fps, FFIV at the same. Hope it helps as I aint got PPC2002 to compare it to on Xscale.

Yep. Had a control problem in F-Zero though - it kept pulling right.
