I am totally hooked on this game - even after beta testing it. What do you guys think?

Who's your favorite character? Got a good strategy you'd like to share?
It's that time of year again. I need a new holiday avatar... Is there anyone up to the challenge?

As mentioned in the Plant Tycoon thread... the game is ok... but it was really designed for short games... Games that last only 15 minutes or so... like I said in the other post it would be nice to have something that had more depth. Afterall there are only 4 ports of call... you can hardly call it a deep game. And the battle scenes don't allow you any input at all, other than to engage in battle or flee. This game could have been so much more... and I hope will be.

Don't get me wrong the game is still fun... but for how long....??? I just do not see it having a lot of replay appeal once you have learned all 4 characters.

I've played all 4 characters now and I still find it distracting enough to keep playing...Gotta luv being Gossamer tho - at least it gives you another port of call and you have this big-ass ship to start with

Which characters have you played? I just retired with Petra and my game lasted well over an hour.

I am just getting started playing the game... I have played about 4... to be honest I have not played with any of the female characters yet... kinda hard for me to get into them. But I will give them a shot eventually.

As you said you have just retired with Petra... if it were me I would find it difficult to play Petra again having completed her adventure. With only a handful of ports to call on... and not a lot to do other than the buying and trading of goods... it is a rather shallow game. Not to say it doesn't have some charm, for me it just lacks depth and replay value once you have gotten through it.

Ok... I just played a game that lasted quite a while...(hours)... But the same thing... the game just lacks depth. It's ok... but you just end up doing the same thing over and over. Like I said... wish the battle interface was a little more interactive... there is a little strategy... but not nearly enough for me.

I am also not overly fond of the crook that runs the Triad... he just does what he wants... It would be fun to be able to corner the market and set your own price for goods... the market seems limitless... so that you can just load up in your warehouse when the cost of goods are low... and sell them later. My fleet became an Armada... I worried less about trading and more about defending myself.

Like I said it just needs a more depth... this game could be alot more fun. But I will carry-on and see where else it takes me.

I'm still playing the initial character, but will soon start another game. With the initial character I am in september 1876; I own 7 two-masted sloop and eight brigantine; I have 634,336,766 gold; own all warehouses.

My main stategy was that when I had enough money in hand and two warehouses. I loaded all my ships with gun, no room for cargo. I would buy as much as possible a low priced item in one port, store in the warehouse, hire a guard, leave for the other town buy as much as possible a low priced item in one port, store in the warehouse, hire a guard, leave for the other town, sell my goods if higher than purchased for, buy something else, leave for the other port, and repeat again.

With so many guns I was hard to defeat. I started to take on each new pirates on the news and accumulate the bounty.

As for combat tactics. I take on a many ships on the other side as about two thirds my fleet. Trying to take on the first round all of the two highest class of ships in the opposing fleat. Leaving the weakling for later. In doing so I suffer very low hits in the first round, if able to sink all taken-on ships.
I AM CANADIAN!

My iPaq 2210 and its accessories:
Kingston's 512MB CF & 512MB SD,
Nushield Protective Screen,
Rhinoskin hard shell, Spare Battery,
D-Link DCF-660W 802.11b CF card,
Teletype World Navigator BT Global Premium GPS.

You have basically laid out my strategies... and like I said it all gets rather redundant...
