pocket doom - pocket quake - pocket wolf

ok these games are really cool and on the top of my list once i get my axim

but one question...

how is the performance of an advanced axim with wm2003 ... yes yes i have read the benchmarks... but i really can't get an idea of how smooth it is. im a newb and need to see it for myself to actually get a feeling for how well it runs

so ppl who have it on an advanced axim-

how smooth is it?

like perfect no skippy/laggy , playable sometimes skips/lags, horrible skippy and laggy to the point that you cant play it

thank you for your time!

I don't have WM 2003, but I can say that I've heard Pocket Quake run pretty good under 2003. Pocket Doom will run just fine no matter which version you get (the freeware or the paid version). Pocket Wolf should also work fine. I've had the most success with Pocket Heretic and Pocket Hexen (two of my favs on my old pc). Since these work on my 2002, they should work just dandy on your 2003.

Any chance you could post some links where we can download pocket quake, doom, wolf, heretic and hexen?

I just got my axim 5 and would be keen to try these out.

Joe.

I have gfDoom and PocketQuake and both are pretty smooth in a window under 2003... the difficulty in both these games is not really frame rate, but control. Doom is difficult but managable once you figure out how to hack the buttons, but PocketQuake is really difficult to play, due to the three-dimensionality.

Indeed, Doom Hexen and Heretic all run very smoothly and are -rather- easily controllable, but Quake and Quake are another story altogether.....both frame-rate and control-wise ;)

As for links:
http://quake.pocketmatrix.com/
http://www.jimmysoftware.com/Software/Doom4CE/
http://wolf.pocketmatrix.com/

The Hexen and Heretic games no longer exist on the "official" site of Raven, but you can find them elsewhere ;)

I see definite improvements running turbo tray to take my 400 to 500. I'll post the links to Hexen and Heretic tonight sometime (after work ;) )

Here is the link for Pocket Heretic and Pocket Hexen. they should include the shareware .wads but not the full retail .wads (gotta already have these).

One tip if you want to play these (which I HIGHLY recommend) you can tap on the bottom of the screen where it says something like www.oke-doke.com to bring up virtual buttons! Use the virtual buttons to play the game because the hard buttons are backwards. Have fun!

I am a newbie and not sure which doom to down load. Should I get the ARM version (which is a bad link) or the Doom4CE and if so which one, there are four different ones on the links and the Axim is not a listed product.

My personal favorite Doom port is GFDoom: http://home.freeuk.com/gamefreaks/pql/gfDoom.htm

Download the Arm version. (XScale=StrongArm=Arm)

It is one of the more advanced ports, and lets you play in landscape mode. There is a thread I started on how to set it up to use the record button and jog dial in for fire and open (to make it more playable in landscape).

Thanks for the links to Hexen cherdman, that should be fun to play.

Quake runs great for me under WM2003 - 255..

Problem for me is the load times, takes forever!..
anyone know how to get out of the "Demo loaded" thing?

Mine sticks there a while saying something like 3 demos
in loop .. .dont remember exactly...

I got a CFG file from the pocketmatrix website that works
great on the Axim, Widescreen and controls are ok.. after
a lil tweaking
