I used to have an Asus Mypal 620 which i loved as it seemed to run every emulator really well but sadly the machines gone to the heavens !
The Dell Axims seem to be excellent for emulation, a few questions...
1) The PPC i get i want mostly for games, whats the Dell controls like for playing games ?
2) Whats the best model to get ? Dell Axim X50 or some of the newer X50's ?
3) I used to play Morphgear a ton on my old PPC. I basically want to be able to play Spectrum games (PocketClive) and Gameboy (mono - gb), is the Dell the one to have ?
If you could reply i would really appreciate that and recommend me what Dell to get.
Get either the x50v or the x51v. They "v" series have a 624mhz proc vs a 520mhz on the non-v series. They also have a high res vga display, which is 640x480 instead of 320x240. This will come in handy for games and emulation.
The X50v comes with wm2003se. Advantages are that it runs older software better than newer oses. Disadvantages are that many programs have stopped putting out new versions for 2003se.
The x51v comes with wm5 which cant run as many older programs, but is still a newer os that gets software made for it.

Tell it brother... I play everything from top-scrollers, to side-scrollers, to a StarFox clone, and even 'ports of Battle Tank and Missile Command on my X51v!
PocketClive- from 2002, will probably work better on 2003se x50v.
MegaMAME- from 2003, will probably work better on 2003se x50v.
Morphgear- has a ppc 2003 version, so it will probably work better on 2003se x50v.
All 3 of those look like they havnt had new versions in quite some time. And as a 2003se user myself, i know that this os can run ppc software from all the way back to 2000!

Sorry to ask but is it possible you could try to load Pocket Clive just temporarily or Morphgear to check it works ?
Just worried that PocketClive for example was designed to work on a 320 x 240 screen whereas the new X50v has a much larger resolution. Just hope it works okay and doesnt appear 'small' i the middle or anything ?

If they dont have a vga version of the software, the software will usually pixel-double meaning that it will fill up the whole screen, it will just be streched.
I have the x50-mid which is qvga, or else i would test out the software for you. Although, if your not going to be using any vga emulators/software frequently, you could always go with a qvga only pda, like an x50 or x30...

Well i managed to get a bargain, getting an x50v the next few days sent to me. I'll see then if it works with all the emulators ! But sounds a great device anyway.
Just wish there was some sort of adaptor to use a console controller with a PPC. I remember one guy was trying to create an adaptor for a PS joystick but nothing ever came of that.

Be superb if they worked with emulators, eg on the Spectrum emulator i could use the keyboard instead of the onscreen one !
Still cant find that joystick adaptor. I'm stunned why a major company who do PPC's like Dell dont create an external joystick as SO many people use their PPC for gaming.
Thanks for the replies. The X50v does sound good i'm just worried that it wont work with my favourite emulators..
PocketClive
MegaMAME
Morphgear
Have you had these working at all ? I'm tempted then to go for the standard X50 in the hope the files above work fine with it.
You might want to read my related articles - I've reviewed all these apps and stated they all run on the x51v; therefore, it'll work on the x51v too (particularly if you update it to WM5).
BTW, there are clearly better emulators than all the three emulators you've mentioned; see my related roundups for more info.
