Hey I've had Chess Genius for about a year and for the low cost its not a bad program. From what I've seen Chess Genius and Fritz 2 were fairly even in their comparisons.

How about CEBoard. Very powerful, multiple engines, and it's free

I just purchased Pocket Grandmaster based on the reviews I read. I looks a lot better than Chess Genius. I'll see if it's any stronger. I like the tactics tutorials though. It would be nice too be able to download additional lessons.

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

the fruit engine for pocketgrandmaster is the strongest, however the strongest chess program for any pda is definitely hiarcs(w/ styletap). i have almost all the aforementioned programs( chess genius, hiarcs, pocket grandmaster, intellichess, pocketgrandmaster just to name a few)and as far as raw strength none compare except the closest runner up is pocketgrandmaster(fruit engine enabled)(hiarcs vs. pocketgrandmaster 27+ 5- 8=(40 games), hiarcs vs. chessmaster(pc) 16+ 17- 7=(40 games) ) .
hiarcs on my treo650/700( 330 mhz) against all other chess programs on dell axim x51v (624 mhz) !!

So, AximAtioM, do you think playing Hiarcs within Styletap makes it a better program, a worse program or no effect? I thought that perhaps the jump in processor speed might do some good, but the emulation might drag it down.

Just wondering.

Yes, Tinyware Pocket Chess is excellent. I've had it for years. I don't play much chess these days but when I wanna get whupped it usually beats me pretty handily and, yes, it rocks as a free application! A valued member of my Axim game collection.

There are quite a few of them. Please read the Definitive Multiplayer PPC Game Roundup for a complete review & comparison.

Thx Menneisyys. I did see your review, and it's good, but I was more interested in how good the AI is. The realdice games i've tried haven't been too clever.

Yes it is slightly more powerful on the dell axim( 624mhz ) versus my treo700p ( 330mhz ), the axim's score out of 20 games against my treo700p was 12+ 5- 3=, pretty good. and yes you are right the higher processor speed allows hiarcs( or any chess program ) to calculate more moves per second so it can make a more accurate move.
