You have to remember that the original Age of Empires isn't that new of a game, so it was easier to port. However, the size requirement of a port of Age of Mythology would be extensive. I doubt that it will happen anytime soon. :( Although it would be fun. :D

sorry to get slightly off topic...my bad...but I'm not really a fan of ppc games (I know, Raynne...shameful)....but, have you tried the pc version of this game? I've been tempted to get it now that I'm back into PC gaming but everytime I get to the store, I pass it up.
Well, slightly off topic to answer a slightly off topic question.
I consider myself something of an RTS veteran. It is definately the genre I consider myself strongest in and it predominates my PC gaming library. Having said that I will follow it up with this...
RUN AND GET AGE OF MYTHOLOGY NOW!!!
Seriously, it ranks right up there as my all time favorite RTS games. It is superb, gameplay, balance, variety of maps/mission types in the campaign, graphics are gorgeous IMO. It is just a darn near perfect game. The expansion Titans may very well make it perfect. Really a joy to play, and I know many gamers who feel the same way.
However, not a chance this could ever run on an Axim, requires good 3D acceleration. For now, I think Age of Empires will have to do. Of course they could build AoM gametypes using the AoE engine, making it 2D. But, it is also still too new I think for anyone to begin porting it, unless of course it was Ensemble, and I don't see that one happening.
I am not much of a strategy fan. However, I enjoy Age of Empires, and I love Mythology, so I was considering this game as my next purchase. I have yet to try it, though.
And yes, it is shameful. LOL :D

AOM is a big stretch for the Axim. AOE is just isometric "fake" 3d, so it is easier on system resources. AOM is true 3d. You can't rotate or zoom in on AOE, but you can in the desktop version of AOM>
