I was reading an article in a PC magazine that talked about Interactive Fiction. From what I read they are supposed to be text based adventures. The article mentioned they were perfect for PocketPC and said that the game requires a reader, most of which are free, but then did not give any websites to check for more info. Can anybody provide me with some direction?
Oooh that sounds like the good old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books that I grew up on in the '80's.
If there are ones out there for PPC it would be fun to read them for the nostalgia.
There are old DOS based games that are text based adventure games. I'm pretty sure they are now free, and legal. It's been many moons since I ran these on my pda (an ipaq) I did a quick search and couldn't find any information. I'm just letting you know it's possible, and that they are out there somewhere, so don't lose hope :)
It's surprising there are not more games for the Pocket PC out there that are not so graphics dependant. I just saw a game for the Palm called Ship Hunt that looks like an excellent Submarine sim. It's not graphics based at all. I can only hope they make a version for the Pocket PC as well. I would also love some sports sims games where you manage a sports team and the idea of the game does not revolve around graphics. If I want graphics I'll play games on my desktop system. I just wish more games had higher emphasis on content I guess.
AvantGo has a channel called "LudiGames" that is exactly that ! it's a choose your own adventure type game

After checking out some of the Interactive Fiction games it does appear that you can download C code for many of them. From there it should be possible to compile w/ Embedded Visual Basic and run on PPC.
(Am I correct?)
Have a look at this one, it's an interpreter/player for interactive fiction create with the TADS tool (linked to from this site - you can download games).
