AoE Savefiles and System Resources

All,

Just bought AoE--never thought I'd see the day I'd be getting hooked into a game like this! This is scary! I never played the game on the PC so I guess I never knew what I was missing (though I may be buyng the PC version soon after all.)

My question is this: the Axe froze up on me while I was trying to save my last Random Map game (two players, Medium Map Moderate Difficulty). Obviously, when I did a soft reset the save file was pretty much toast. Is this a common occurence with the the PPC edition when save files reach a certain size? I hope not, but I thought maybe some of you seasoned Axim AoE players might have encountered similar experiences and know some way to avoid it. The Axim hardly ever freezes up on me in general, but owing to the size of the AoE program, I guess it shouldn't be totally unexpected.

Well, time to go fend off some Greek Siege Elephants...

AOE actually crashes on me when I try to save in a random map game. Couple questions...1, do you have it installed to an sd card? 2. Is it a ScamDisk and 3. Is it write protected?

I have all my games installed to a "Scamdisk" 128 CF card. After two solid nights of playing AoE and numerous saves I've only had the one instance of crashing. But I'm keeping an eye on this card, after all the reports I've heard.

As a sidebar, I bought an SD and a CF 128MB card from DELL. I've had some minor instances of corruption on the 128MB SD card (not AoE related, BTW) but after recopying the files they were fine. Maybe something else was at work.
